Chinese actress Bai Baihe found herself trending across social media on 15 February after a viral park video involving her young son ignited heated debate about public manners, parenting choices, and child safety. The footage, widely circulated by online accounts, quickly pushed two related hashtags into the trending charts and divided opinion almost instantly.
The controversy stems from a clip showing the 41-year-old actress spending time at a public park with a friend and their children. According to the video, one of the children, believed to be around five years old, urgently needed to use the toilet.
Bai Baihe was then seen guiding the children towards a corner of the park to deal with the situation.

In the clip, a slightly older child appears visibly distressed while trying to undo his trousers, clearly struggling to hold it in.
What intensified the discussion, however, was the visible warning sign nearby indicating the presence of underground cables beneath the area.
That single detail shifted the narrative from simple parenting judgement to concerns over potential safety risks.
Once the video spread, online reactions came in waves.
Some netizens criticised Bai Baihe’s actions, arguing that as a public figure she should demonstrate stronger social responsibility.
Woooooooooooooooooows
They questioned whether allowing a child to relieve himself outdoors in a public space, particularly near infrastructure signage, set an appropriate example. A number of users framed the issue around public civility and environmental hygiene, saying celebrities are often held to a higher behavioural standard.
Others focused more heavily on the safety aspect, pointing out that damp conditions near underground cable facilities could present avoidable risks. Several commenters claimed that even in urgent moments, guardians should prioritise relocating to a safer, more discreet area.
However, not everyone was critical.
Many parents stepped in to defend Bai Baihe, saying that young children often struggle with bladder control and that emergencies don’t always wait for ideal circumstances.
Supporters emphasised that children aged four to five can panic when they urgently need the toilet, and sometimes practical decisions are made in the moment. Some argued that the footage lacked full context and may not reflect the entire situation.
Beyond the immediate incident, the discussion evolved into a broader debate about modern parenting standards. Is flexibility acceptable when a child is clearly distressed?
Or should stricter planning always come first? Social media commentary revealed a clear split between those advocating strict public discipline and those prioritising a child’s immediate comfort.
At the time of writing, Bai Baihe has not released an official statement addressing the situation. Public records show that she has two children — her eldest son, affectionately known as Yuanbao, is now 18, while her younger child was born in 2021.
What do you think — was this simply a parenting emergency caught on camera, or should public figures be held to a stricter standard in shared spaces?
