Chinese actress Wang Yuwen has unexpectedly hit pause on all promotional activities for her newly aired drama My Page in the 90s, sending shockwaves through online drama circles. What initially looked like a routine publicity schedule quickly turned into a full-blown industry discussion after her studio released a firm public statement addressing serious issues behind the scenes.

On 25 January 2026, Wang Yuwen Studio announced that all promotion for the drama would be suspended with immediate effect. According to the statement, the decision was made to protect the actress’s professional rights and reputation following repeated unprofessional behaviour by a promotional team working with the production.

The studio stressed that Wang Yuwen and her team had consistently cooperated with every promotional arrangement and actively supported the drama’s rollout.

However, they accused the external promotional team of crossing acceptable boundaries, including spreading unfounded claims about the actress and intentionally straining relations between her side and the cooperating platform.

These actions were described as a serious breach of trust that undermined the effort and goodwill invested by Wang Yuwen and her team.

The statement made it clear that until the matter is handled fairly and properly, all publicity work for the drama will remain on hold. The studio also noted that further announcements would depend on how the situation develops.

My Page in the 90s, which stars Wang Yuwen alongside Chen Xingxu, only recently premiered and quickly gained attention from viewers. However, the studio did not disclose specific details regarding the alleged claims, leaving many observers speculating about what exactly went wrong behind the scenes.

Not long after the studio’s announcement, the drama’s production team released an official response, acknowledging serious errors in their selection and management of the promotional team.

In their statement, the production side admitted that internal oversight had fallen short and that the issue was being treated with urgency.

Following a preliminary investigation, the production team confirmed that certain individuals within the promotional team had spread false information and made accusations about Wang Yuwen without any factual basis.

These claims were reportedly shared with the platform despite the individuals never having direct contact with the actress herself, resulting in reputational harm.

The production team issued a public apology to Wang Yuwen, her studio, and all affected parties.

They confirmed that the individuals involved had been dismissed, cooperation with the promotional team had been terminated, and a full review of promotional procedures and internal supervision would be carried out to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Online reactions have been mixed. Many fans voiced strong support for Wang Yuwen, praising her studio for taking a clear stand and protecting the actress’s professional integrity.

Others criticised the production side for poor management, calling the situation a reminder of how damaging unchecked promotional practices can be. Some netizens, however, urged both sides to resolve the matter swiftly so the drama itself would not suffer further fallout.

For now, it remains unclear whether Wang Yuwen will resume promotional activities once the issue is fully resolved. As discussions continue across social media, audiences are watching closely to see how both the production and the actress’s team handle the next steps.

What do you think about artists stepping back from promotions in situations like this, and should production teams be held more accountable for their PR partners?
