Chinese actress Zhao Lusi has finally addressed her absence from all New Year celebration events, choosing to speak directly to fans through a livestream on Red Note on December 31. Rather than making public appearances, the actress opted for a quieter, more personal way to connect, while also unveiling four key work plans she has lined up for 2026.

The past year marked a major turning point in Zhao Lusi’s career. Following the massive success of Love’s Ambition, widely viewed as one of the most influential Chinese dramas of 2025, her popularity reached new heights.

The drama not only strengthened her position in the industry but also symbolised a fresh chapter after parting ways with her former management company.

Despite the spotlight, Zhao Lusi kept a notably low profile throughout most of 2025, with very limited filming activities.

Zhao Lusi Explains Why She Avoided New Year Events and What’s Next in 2026

Instead of joining year-end stages and countdown shows, Zhao Lusi chose to host a livestream, a decision that proved surprisingly powerful. In just one session, her follower count reportedly jumped by around 200,000, highlighting her strong fan connection even without traditional promotional routes.

During the broadcast, she calmly shared her plans for 2026, which include returning to drama projects, joining variety programmes, taking part in music video productions, and expanding her advertising and endorsement work.

Her career pause had previously drawn public attention after the drama Almost Lover was halted due to her health condition at the time.

The project was eventually disbanded, and Zhao Lusi later confirmed that unresolved issues with her former company led to a complete breakdown in their working relationship.

The situation became a major talking point across entertainment circles and marked one of the most challenging periods of her career.

Following that chapter, Zhao Lusi gradually stepped away from her long-established social platforms and became more active on Red Note instead. The move unexpectedly sparked a fresh surge in popularity, with her follower growth often cited as one of the fastest on the platform.

Her renewed momentum after Love’s Ambition has also fuelled industry speculation about potential new partnerships, although nothing has been officially confirmed.

During the livestream, Zhao Lusi also shared why she chose to stay away from New Year celebration events.

She explained that the transition period between 2024 and 2025 was particularly sensitive for her, and she didn’t want to take on emotionally demanding public appearances that might disrupt her recovery.

She added that standing on large stages can sometimes feel overwhelming, making it difficult to genuinely express herself in those moments.

Livestreaming, however, felt different. Zhao Lusi described it as a safer and more comfortable way to talk openly with fans, without the pressure she associates with formal events. This choice seemed to resonate strongly, with many viewers praising her honesty and maturity.

When the conversation turned to 2026, Zhao Lusi’s mood noticeably lifted. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to fans who stayed with her through a quiet year, revealing that she is now receiving numerous drama scripts and collaboration offers, all currently under careful consideration.

She also asked fans for their thoughts on her interest in variety shows, saying that being better understood might help her feel more at ease moving forward.

Fans are watching closely to see which path she chooses next. What kind of project would you most like to see her return with first — drama, variety, or music-related work?
