BNK48 and TSH48 have officially joined forces for their very first cross-country collaboration single, Sky Lantern Wish, a project that blends Thai and Chinese influences into one surprisingly smooth and heartfelt release. More than just a special single, this collaboration feels like a statement: regional idol groups are no longer staying in their own lanes.

Released as a symbolic bridge between Thailand and China, Sky Lantern Wish leans heavily into themes of hope, shared dreams, and friendship across borders. The concept takes inspiration from sky lanterns, long associated with wishes and prayers, making the song feel universal even before listeners dive into the lyrics.

Musically, the track is helmed by Li MaoYang from T2o, who handled both songwriting and composition.

The arrangement was crafted by Mangoou, G-Tracy, and SFM Crew, giving the song a polished yet gentle sound that sits comfortably between modern idol pop and emotional ballad territory.

To make sure the message lands naturally with Thai audiences, the Thai lyrics were adapted by Tanupop Notayanont, ensuring the song doesn’t feel like a direct translation, but a genuine local interpretation.

The senbatsu lineup itself reflects the spirit of collaboration. BNK48 selected their representatives through the Thai-Chinese Cultural Ambassador Project, while TSH48 sent their top three members from the 7th Anniversary Senbatsu Election.

BNK48 is represented by Hoop, Grace, Galeya, Jew, Nall, and Niya, while TSH48 sends Ye Zhien, Gui Chuchu, and Wei Xiaoya to complete the lineup.

What makes Sky Lantern Wish particularly special is its status as the first official collaboration between two sister groups from different countries. For long-time fans of the 48-group universe, this feels like a long-awaited expansion of the concept, turning cultural exchange into something tangible rather than just symbolic.

The excitement doesn’t stop at the audio release. Fans will be able to witness the collaboration live at the BNK48 and TSH48 Special Single First Performance event at MBK Center in Bangkok on 24 January 2026.

Running from midday until late evening at Avenue A, G Floor, the event is packed with performances, an MV premiere, merchandise and café sessions, group hi-touch activities, and special selfie shots complete with exclusive posters handed directly by the members.

Netizens’ reactions to the collaboration have been mixed but lively. Many fans are praising the concept, calling it a smart and meaningful move that elevates both groups beyond their domestic markets.

Some highlighted the song’s gentle melody and cultural symbolism, saying it feels sincere rather than forced. Others are more cautious, curious to see how future collaborations might evolve and whether this project will lead to more joint stages or even long-term exchanges between sister groups.

Still, most agree on one thing: Sky Lantern Wish has opened a new door. It proves that idol collaborations don’t have to be limited by borders, language, or market focus, and that shared values can translate into music that resonates widely.

Now the spotlight turns to the fans. Is Sky Lantern Wish the start of a new era for cross-regional idol projects, or a one-off special moment?
