Chinese actress Fan Bingbing started the New Year on a meaningful note in her new 'home' Malaysia, finally reuniting with her Golden Horse Best Actress trophy after missing the awards ceremony in Taipei back in November.
Returning to Malaysia for the New Year, the actress personally received the long-awaited accolade that had been accepted on her behalf earlier by Mother Bhumi director Chong Keat Aun.
Since the ceremony, the trophy had been carefully kept by the director, waiting for the right moment to be handed to its rightful owner.
On 1 January, Fan Bingbing shared several photos with the coveted award, beaming as she held the Golden Horse trophy close. In her caption, she wrote, “With passion, we can overcome anything. My dear friends, let’s keep going together!”

Chong Keat Aun also posted about the handover, describing it as his final “director duty” before the end of the year.
He reflected on filming days spent in rural Kedah, recalling scenes of Fan Bingbing living in the village, planting rice, leading water buffaloes, harvesting vegetables, cooking, and taking part in traditional cleansing rituals.
Seeing her happily holding the award, he said, brought those memories flooding back.

According to the director, one of the film’s co-producers hosted a celebratory dinner after Fan Bingbing arrived in Malaysia on the night of 30 December.
The mood was light and hopeful, with playful remarks that the upcoming Lunar New Year being the Year of the Horse made the Golden Horse trophy feel like an especially lucky sign.

While theatrical release dates for Mother Bhumi in Malaysia and Singapore have yet to be confirmed, the film has already performed strongly in Taiwan, crossing the one-million mark at the box office.
The movie was also released earlier in Hong Kong and Taiwan to meet eligibility requirements for major film awards, opening the door for potential further recognition.
Adding to her New Year celebrations, Fan Bingbing also attended a local New Year event in Malaysia, where she received the Melaka International Cultural Diplomacy Icon Award, marking another milestone during her stay.
Many are now curious about what lies ahead for Fan Bingbing and Mother Bhumi in 2026.
Do you think this could be the start of another major award run? Would you watch the film if it hits cinemas in your country?
