The end came almost as quickly as the beginning. Japanese idol group DorothyDrop (ドロシードロップ) has officially announced that they will be ending all activities and disbanding on January 16, 2026, marking a sudden close to a group that only stepped onto the idol stage a few months ago.

The decision was made after discussions with the remaining members, with all scheduled activities beyond that date now cancelled.

Formed on August 16, 2025, DorothyDrop debuted live on September 24, 2025, at Aube Shibuya, instantly standing out with a dark, theatrical concept built around gothic visuals and an immersive “Dorodoro” world.

Their style leaned heavily into edgy storytelling rather than conventional idol brightness, attracting a niche but passionate fanbase intrigued by their atmosphere-driven performances.

However, the group’s short journey was marked by rapid changes. Originally debuting with seven members, DorothyDrop gradually lost four members in quick succession.

Yumeno Nemuru withdrew in late November 2025, followed by Maizono Karen and Kila Innocence at the end of December.

On January 6, 2026, management announced the termination of Nikoto Ramu’s contract due to serious violations, a move that came just one day before the disbandment notice.

In their official statement, the group shared that the live performance on January 16 would serve as the final chapter for the original lineup, describing the end as the conclusion of the “resonance” shared by all seven members.

Management also confirmed that all performances scheduled after that date have been cancelled, with apologies issued to fans, venues, and related parties affected by the abrupt change.

At the time of disbandment, the final lineup consisted of founding members Maze Usa, Meidou Hitsugi, and Lei

Despite being active for less than half a year, DorothyDrop’s concept-heavy approach left a strong impression on fans who valued mood, narrative, and visual identity over traditional idol formulas.

Among Japanese fans, reactions have been mixed but intense. Some netizens expressed disappointment and confusion, pointing out that the group barely had time to stabilise before everything unravelled.

Others criticised the management’s handling of the situation, noting how frequent member changes can erode trust and emotional investment, especially for overseas fans who follow closely but from a distance.

At the same time, a softer wave of comments focused on supporting the remaining members, with fans urging them to move forward positively, whether within or outside the idol scene.

A few also reflected on DorothyDrop’s concept, saying the group may have been “too niche, too fast” for such an early-stage project, but still praised the ambition behind it.

For many, the disbandment feels less like an ending and more like a story cut short mid-chapter.

DorothyDrop’s final live on January 16 will now stand as both a farewell and a reminder of how fragile new idol projects can be.
