Japanese idol group LumiUnion (ルミユニオン) has officially announced that it will disband at the end of April 2026, following extensive internal discussions among members and management. The news was shared through the group’s official channels, marking an emotional turning point for fans who have followed the group’s long and meaningful journey.
According to the statement, the decision was not made lightly.
After careful consideration of the group’s future direction, the team agreed that concluding activities would be the most responsible choice.
The announcement came as a surprise to many supporters, especially given the group’s recent rebrand and renewed push earlier this year.

LumiUnion’s story began long before its current name. Originally launched in 2019 as Namie Joshi Hatsu Kumiai, the group was created to support the recovery and revitalisation of Namie Town in Fukushima, following the 2011 disaster. With the slogan about carrying the winds of Namie to the world, the group became deeply tied to regional events, community projects, and recovery initiatives.
In June 2025, the group rebranded as LumiUnion, signalling a new chapter aimed at expanding its reach beyond regional activities.
However, just around six months after the name change, the group confirmed that this chapter would also be its last.
Despite the short lifespan of LumiUnion as a brand, the group’s overall activities span nearly six years, filled with live performances, community engagement, and a strong emotional bond with fans known as “union members”.

Members Share Honest and Emotional Messages
Alongside the announcement, heartfelt messages from all eight members were released. Many spoke openly about gratitude, reflection, and the mixed emotions surrounding the decision.
The group’s producer expressed feelings of regret for not being able to fully meet fans’ expectations, while also emphasising the joy and irreplaceable memories created together.
Other members reflected on personal growth, the meaning of performing for others, and the lessons learned through years of shared experiences.
Several members highlighted how performing in Namie and other regions shaped their understanding of what idol activities could represent — not just entertainment, but connection, encouragement, and shared emotion.

Final Months Will Focus on Fans and Appreciation Events
While the end date has been confirmed, LumiUnion is not disappearing quietly. The group stated that fan appreciation events and activities will continue until April 2026, with the goal of properly thanking supporters who stood by them from the very beginning.
An upcoming livestream will outline detailed plans for these final months, giving fans clarity on how they can spend the remaining time with the group.
The focus, according to the statement, is to create as many opportunities as possible to meet fans face to face and close this chapter with warmth rather than regret.

LumiUnion’s journey may not have followed a typical idol success path, but its impact runs deeper than numbers or rankings. From disaster recovery roots to national stages, the group carved out a space built on sincerity, resilience, and human connection.
As the final months approach, the group has promised to continue spreading light, smiles, and gratitude — staying true to the values they started with.
If you’ve followed LumiUnion from their Namie days or discovered them during the rebrand, how are you feeling about this decision?
