Chinese actor Li Hongyi, 27, recently found himself at the centre of online discussion after court records revealed he had been placed under restrictions on high-value spending. The news surprised many fans, especially as his career has been on a steady rise following his well-received role as Xiao Se in The Blood of Youth.

As search terms related to “Li Hongyi spending restriction” climbed trending lists, both the actor and his studio stepped forward to clarify what actually happened — and why the situation is far less dramatic than some online speculation suggests.

In a personal statement, Li Hongyi explained that the issue traces back to a management contract that expired in 2022 with his former agency, Hunan Mango Entertainment.

After the contract ended, both sides entered negotiations and agreed on a compensation arrangement tied to the termination.

Li Hongyi stressed that he has honoured the agreement throughout the process and continues to actively work with all involved parties to resolve the remaining procedures.

He also addressed the public focus on the issue directly, saying that he hopes people will concentrate on his acting work rather than over-analysing contract matters that were settled years ago. According to him, exaggerated interpretations and one-sided narratives online only distract from the creative work he continues to prioritise.

Li Hongyi’s studio later released a detailed statement to clear up confusion surrounding the court ruling.

According to the studio, the dispute between Li Hongyi and Hunan Mango Entertainment has already been legally adjudicated

The court ruled that the agency contract should be terminated and that both parties were responsible for breach of contract.

After financial offsets were calculated, Li Hongyi was required to personally pay 13.08 million RMB in compensation.

Due to the size of the amount, he has been unable to pay it in a single lump sum. Instead, he has already paid part of the total — approximately 1.9 million RMB so far — and is continuing payments in instalments.

During this repayment period, the former agency initiated compulsory enforcement under legal procedures, which led the court to apply temporary restrictions on high-consumption activities.

The studio emphasised that the spending restriction is purely an enforcement measure related to a civil dispute and temporary financial arrangements. It is not linked to any unlawful behaviour, misconduct, or violations of professional standards.

They also confirmed that the court’s ruling supports Li Hongyi’s right to independently develop his acting career, and that the restriction will not affect his ongoing or future projects, partnerships, or professional collaborations.

Once the remaining compensation is fully paid, the consumption restriction will be lifted entirely.

Li Hongyi reiterated that he remains focused on his craft and upcoming roles, and is committed to resolving the remaining legal steps responsibly. For now, both he and his studio have asked the public to view the matter calmly and avoid unnecessary speculation.
