A Story Rooted in Strength and Devotion

Born to Be Alive follows Bai Ju, a young woman adopted by Bai Ge Gen, leader of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway project, and his wife Zhang Qin Qin

Raised in the Gobi Desert, Bai Ju grows up surrounded by love and hard work.

Inspired by her family’s dedication, she becomes a police officer, later joining the mountain patrol team to protect the Tibetan Plateau.

The drama intertwines human endurance, emotional depth, and the raw beauty of nature — a mix that proved as tough to film as it looks on screen.

“I Could Hardly Speak While Filming”

Yang Zi revealed that the shoot pushed her to her absolute limits, both physically and mentally.

“On my second day on set, I went straight to a location that was about 4,000 metres above sea level. I thought I’d be fine, but soon my head started pounding, and I could barely talk,” she recalled.

Despite the altitude sickness, Yang Zi powered through her lines while breathing oxygen between takes

The next day, things didn’t get easier — she had to film a running scene while dragging someone through snow, with a blizzard closing in.

“After that scene, my whole body just shut down,” she admitted. “I was dizzy, my legs were shaking, and I felt like I could hardly breathe.”

Emotion Behind the Action

Beyond the gruelling conditions, Born to Be Alive captures Bai Ju’s growth from a lost child to a strong, selfless protector

Yang Zi’s portrayal reflects both the fragility and determination of someone who finds meaning in service and sacrifice.

The production team also made full use of the Tibetan Plateau’s vast landscapes, delivering a visual feast that amplifies the character’s emotional journey.

Viewers can expect a mix of high-stakes drama, heartfelt moments, and a profound reflection on resilience and love.

A Test of Body and Spirit

For Yang Zi, this project wasn’t just another role — it was an experience that pushed her to discover her own limits.

“It wasn’t just about acting anymore,” she said.

“It felt like living through what Bai Ju truly faced.”

With Born to Be Alive now completed, fans are eagerly waiting for its premiere, ready to see Yang Zi’s most challenging and heartfelt performance yet.
