Ex-TVB Anchor Calls Out “Unrealistic” Weather Scenes In The Queen Of News 2, Sparking Lively Debate Online

TVB’s hit drama The Queen Of The News made a massive comeback this year, and its sequel is already smashing numbers. With over 1.8 million tuning in, it’s officially the station’s highest-rated drama since 2021. Viewers are loving the return of Charmaine Sheh, Selena Lee, and Samantha Ko, with Bosco Wong sliding in as the sequel’s main trouble-stirrer.

But while the storyline and newsroom chaos have fans hooked, one ex-TVB presenter isn’t buying everything she sees on screen.

Former finance anchor and weather presenter Gigi Sun, who left the station in early 2024, recently pointed out that certain scenes—especially the weather segments—stray a bit too far from reality for her liking. And she’s got the credentials to back it up.

According to the 34-year-old, the drama’s breezy weather-reporting sequence is much simpler than what presenters actually go through.

She broke it down in a lengthy social post, explaining that those “few minutes on air” demand a whole lot more prep work off-camera.

Why an Ex-Anchor Is Calling Out The Queen of News 2 Drama

“You’ve got to comb through every single update from the Observatory, select the key points, and rewrite everything to fit the show’s duration and the visuals,” she said. “It’s not just a matter of standing there and talking.”

Since leaving the newsroom, Gigi has dived into academia, first lecturing at City University of Hong Kong before joining Education University of Hong Kong, where she’s now an Assistant Programme Leader.

But clearly, the old habits die hard—especially when the portrayal of her former job gets a bit too romanticised.

She also commented on Rosita Kwok’s cheerful and almost care-free portrayal of a weather presenter, noting that real studios now use 360-degree cameras and teleprompters—meaning no one is standing there trying to memorise lines from scratch.

And as for the “cute and flirty” antics the show occasionally sprinkles in?

Why an Ex-Anchor Says The Queen of the News 2 Gets the Newsroom Wrong

“Of course not,” Gigi said plainly. “The weather report is part of the news. Accuracy comes first. Opening an umbrella in the studio? That’s not happening.”

Her remarks quickly stirred chatter online.

Some netizens were genuinely curious, throwing more questions at her about what life in the newsroom was actually like. Others, however, thought she was taking things a bit too seriously.

One commenter chimed in, “It’s just a show. Everyone knows it’s dramatised. No one really believes news is broadcast like that, right?”

Still, if there’s one thing this debate proves, it’s that The Queen Of The News 2 is doing its job—getting people talking, on screen and off.
