Thai breakout darling Tontawan Tantivejakul, better known to many as Tu Tontawan, has officially been named the next recipient of the FPA Asia-Pacific Rising Icon Award — a major nod that firmly cements her place as one of the region’s fastest-rising young talents.
The announcement places her alongside Malaysian actor Syafiq Kyle, who was revealed earlier this year as a fellow honouree.
Both actors will be celebrated at the 62nd Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF) Awards Night, set for 6 December 2025 at Auditorium Bandaraya, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.
A Standout Year for Tu Tontawan
Tontawan has been on a steady global climb, but 2024–2025 truly marked her breakout moment.
Her role in the Thai family dramedy “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” catapulted her into the international spotlight, with the film becoming one of the region’s biggest box-office successes of the year.
Her performance — warm, grounded, and emotionally resonant — earned widespread praise from critics and everyday viewers alike.
It’s the kind of turn that not only wins hearts but announces an actor as someone to look out for, and clearly, the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA) feels the same.
Two Rising Icons Representing a New Regional Wave
This year’s APFF Rising Icon selections highlight two actors who are shaping the next phase of Southeast Asian cinema.
-
Tontawan Tantivejakul is being recognised for her expressive screen presence, growing cross-border popularity, and impressive early career momentum.
-
Syafiq Kyle, meanwhile, continues to make waves in Malaysian entertainment, building a strong audience following and diversifying his film and TV roles across multiple genres.
Together, they represent the region’s changing landscape — youthful, ambitious, and increasingly global-facing.
Presented by the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA), the Rising Icon Award honours emerging actors who show clear artistic promise and are steadily shaping the cinematic direction of the region.
The 62nd APFF is organised by Lomo Pictures Sdn. Bhd., endorsed by the FPA, and supported by FINAS (the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia).
