Sakurazaka46 captain Matsuda Rina is officially stepping into a major milestone of idol life: her very first photobook. The yet-untitled release (update: Matsuri no Jikan), published by Gentosha, will hit shelves on 20 January 2026, marking a long-awaited moment for both Matsuda and fans who’ve been cheering her steady rise within the group.

For members of the Sakamichi Series, releasing a photobook isn’t something handed out lightly. It’s considered a privilege — almost a rite of passage — and only happens when management sees strong enough enthusiasm from the public and fanbase.

Agencies typically run internal surveys, market checks, and fan-reaction studies before giving the green light, ensuring confidence in sales potential.

Matsuda Rina clearing that bar says plenty about her growing presence and popularity.

To celebrate the upcoming release, a special YouTube livestream has been confirmed for 18 December at around 9:30 PM on the official Sakurazaka Channel.

Everything to Know About Matsuda Rina’s First Photobook Shot in Auckland and Rotorua

Fans can expect early insights, behind-the-scenes stories and, knowing Matsuda, a warm chat filled with her usual bright energy.

Alongside the stream, a 24-hour limited sale has been announced through Sony Music Shop.

Buyers of the regular-cover edition will receive two exclusive bonuses: a B3 poster with no folds and an “extra luck” charm card.

The poster features a relaxed beach shot from the final day of shooting, complete with Rina Matsuda’s handwritten printed message.

The charm card, designed to fit in a wallet, comes from a playful moment filmed at a sheep farm in Rotorua, where she found herself surrounded by an enthusiastic flock.

The printed handwritten charm and illustration offer a cute keepsake fans can carry daily.

The photobook itself was shot across Auckland and Rotorua, capturing Matsuda Rina in a mix of charming, cheerful, and natural moments.

From interacting with sheep and enjoying a casual barbecue, to trying her hand at latte art, hopping on a tram, and even a bit of catch ball, the collection aims to feel like spending a breezy day with her abroad.

Many of the images carry an intimate, down-to-earth tone — the kind that Sakamichi photobooks are loved for.

The book also includes scenes set along New Zealand’s striking beaches and rivers.
