A Chinese netizen has issued a public apology to actor and singer Wang Yibo after a Beijing court ruled that their previous posts had infringed on the star’s legal right to reputation.

The apology, published on 17 November, came shortly after the court concluded that the user had circulated untrue statements that went beyond personal commentary and entered the realm of clear defamation.

According to the ruling, the individual had shared misleading claims along with edited images that created a false impression of Wang Yibo.

The court determined that the behaviour was harmful and constituted an unlawful attack on the artist’s public image.

Following the verdict, the netizen admitted full responsibility, acknowledging that their posts were irrational and inappropriate.

They stated they were willing to accept all legal consequences and promised not to engage in similar conduct in the future.

Yuehua Entertainment had previously addressed the matter, noting that the user had repeatedly posted offensive and misleading remarks targeting Wang Yibo, prompting the company to take formal legal action to protect the artist.

Business data platform Qichacha also shows that Wang Yibo has launched several online infringement disputes recently.

One of the upcoming hearings involves an individual surnamed Zhou, with the case scheduled for December.

Other defendants listed in ongoing cases include various technology companies.

Overall, the situation highlights Wang Yibo’s continued efforts to fight back against harmful online behaviour and maintain a clean digital environment as the volume of false claims in the entertainment sphere continues to rise.
