Lesley Chiang has always been pretty open with fans, but this week she took it to an even more heartfelt level. The Hong Kong singer and actress revealed that she’s just come through one of the toughest months she’s had in years, after her long-term depression resurfaced fiercely — something she says she’s been managing for 12 years straight.
Taking to social media, Lesley didn’t sugar-coat anything. She admitted the past few weeks had been “a bad one,” sharing that this latest episode felt like the strongest hit since around 2014 or 2015.
Still, in true Lesley fashion, she mixed honesty with grit, saying she immediately reached out to her doctor and her husband for support.
Her Two Go-To Coping Methods
Lesley Chiang also shared the little systems she uses to get through the more difficult days:
1. The “Number System”
She rates her condition out of 10 — with 0 meaning she feels perfectly fine and 10 meaning “the apocalypse.” She keeps her partner in the loop with an open-book approach so he can understand her daily state without needing her to explain it constantly.
As she put it, “Sometimes we just don’t want to talk about it. Again. And again. For 12 years.”
2. Do One Thing a Day
Whether it’s a walk, Pilates, or cooking a proper meal, Lesley forces herself to tick off one simple task. It’s her way of staying grounded and not letting the days fold into each other.
A Huge Shout-Out to Her Husband in LA
Lesley Chiang didn’t hide how much her husband has been doing for her throughout this ongoing journey.
Since relocating to Los Angeles last year after signing with a US management company, the couple has been navigating a whole new life — new city, new industry, and a career path that requires constant auditioning.
“He’s the best partner. He’s a pro at this now too,” she wrote, acknowledging that she also struggles with that familiar guilt many people feel when leaning on loved ones.
But according to Lesley, her husband always reassures her firmly: never apologise for your situation.
Feeling “Happy and Stable” Again
The good news? Lesley shared that she’s been feeling genuinely stable for the past week — something she sees as another hard-won victory.
“Even though I’m exhausted, I’m still here,” she wrote. “Take care of yourselves, guys. Love you, you’re not alone.”
Alongside her message, she posted calming snapshots from recent days — scenery, food, and her dog — small pockets of normalcy that have helped her steady herself again.
Life in LA: A Whole New Challenge
Since leaving TVB in December 2024, Lesley has been chasing bigger dreams in Hollywood.
And the process hasn’t been glamorous — she admitted that every audition comes with fierce competition, sometimes over a thousand people trying for a single role.
She’s even bumped into fellow Hong Kong actors Fala Chen and Daniel Wu in LA, who both told her the same thing:
Hollywood is fair, but the grind never ends. Everyone auditions. Everyone waits for the next opportunity.
Still, Lesley seems determined to stick it out, and her latest honest update shows exactly why fans admire her resilience so much.
