| Jiang Xin Gets Real About Starving for Beauty Standards — Fans Say ‘You’re Perfect as You Are!’ |
Chinese actress Jiang Xin (蒋欣) has sparked major conversation online after breaking down in tears over the extreme diet she went through just to fit into a red carpet gown.
On November 6, the 42-year-old actress posted a video on Weibo, showing her teary-eyed and slightly tipsy as she emotionally confessed to her manager, Yan Liangruo, about “starving herself” in the days leading up to the Weibo TV & Internet Video Summit 2025 earlier that week.
In the clip, Jiang Xin revealed that she’d been eating nothing but vegetarian meals for two days, forcing herself to appear full in front of her parents so they wouldn’t worry.
“Even my dad wouldn’t believe me if I said I’m full! I told him I was full, and he was shocked,” she said, laughing through tears. “I’m acting like I’m full, I’m acting!”
The actress admitted that maintaining her figure had been emotionally draining, especially since the gown she wore was handpicked by her manager.
“Because this dress was your pick, I have to look good in it,” she said to Liangruo. “I can’t let people think I’m ugly or fat. I really tried hard, but my arms are still so thick they’re catching up to my thighs.”
Jiang Xin, who stands at 1.71 metres tall, has often been described by the media as having a “sturdy frame” or “bear-like waist”, labels she’s been living with since her early acting years.
She added with a mix of humour and honesty that she’s always been “healthy and strong”, not one of those people who can simply “shrink overnight”.
When her manager later asked if she was happy with how she looked, Jiang Xin chuckled and replied, “Still okay, my arms don’t look particularly thick!”

| Jiang Xin Tearfully Confesses She "Starved Herself" to Fit Red Carpet Dress Picked by Manager |
Jiang Xin’s raw confession highlighted the pressure many female celebrities face to look flawless on-screen and at public events.
She even quipped about how thankful she was to her manager that day:
“I’m really thankful today, Yan Liangruo, because you ordered some cucumber for me!”
Liangruo, clearly uncomfortable with being seen as the ‘strict manager,’ quickly clarified that she never forced Jiang Xin to diet.
“Please don’t make me sound like a villain who wouldn’t let her eat,” she said, insisting that the actress’s decision to restrict herself was self-imposed.
After the event, Liangruo even encouraged Jiang Xin to celebrate with a proper meal — but the actress refused.
“No, I don’t want to. I think I looked quite nice like that,” Jiang Xin replied.

Some also couldn’t help but find her candidness endearing, calling the video “adorably honest”.
“Isn’t this video just too cute? I’ve watched it so many times already,” wrote one netizen.
Keeping It Real in a Perfection-Obsessed Industry
While Jiang Xin’s emotional confession may have started as a light-hearted vent, it’s clearly struck a deeper chord with fans and fellow celebs alike.
Her raw honesty about body image pressures shows the reality behind all those glamorous red carpet photos — the unseen sacrifices and self-discipline that come with fame.
