Japanese idol group Yoake no Iris (Iris at Dawn,  has announced that member Ishida Shion will suspend all activities indefinitely after the group received a series of extremely malicious emails, including detailed written threats. Following legal advice, management has filed reports with authorities and is currently cooperating with police investigations.

The five-member girl group, which officially debuted in November 2023, shared the update through its official Twitter account, stressing that Shion’s safety — and that of all members — is the top priority.

The statement explained that the emails contained specific details and were serious enough that police advised an immediate halt to Ishida Shion’s activities.

Group Speaks Out Firmly: “No Exceptions — Legal Action Will Be Taken”

In the official announcement, Yoake no Iris did not mince words, calling the messages a form of criminal interference that cannot be overlooked.

The management stated that any form of threats, harassment, or obstructive behaviour directed at the members will result in legal action, regardless of anonymity.

They also emphasised that evidence is being preserved to pursue both civil and criminal measures when necessary.

On Twitter, the group apologised to fans for the sudden update but noted that ensuring member safety and preventing any future incidents must come before everything else.

Online Mockery Escalated Into Real-World Trouble

Unfortunately, this incident didn’t come out of nowhere.

For weeks, a portion of Japanese social media users had been repeatedly mocking Ishida Shion’s appearance, especially after the group first revealed its members.

Some comments criticised her styling, while others made rude remarks about her debut photos — from her outfit to her worn-out trainers.

After the initial backlash gained attention, the group even launched a public search for stylists who could help Shion transform her look.

The makeover was successful and well-received, with many praising her updated image and highlighting her natural charm.

But while most of the internet eventually softened, a small number continued to target her, and the situation has now crossed into a level that required official intervention.

Debut Momentum Interrupted

Yoake no Iris — made up of Usami Yuki, Ishida Shion, Usaki Yuzuki, Kobato Kaname, and Tanigawa Aoi — only just debuted on 23 November after weeks of teasing their lineup on social media.

The group had been gaining attention for their fresh concept and steady rise in visibility, especially after Shion’s makeover story went viral.

Now, with one member stepping back indefinitely, fans are hoping the situation is resolved quickly and safely.

Fans across Titter have expressed concern and frustration that such a new group is already dealing with such extreme online hostility.

Most are rallying around Ishida Shion, reminding others that idols — especially rookies — deserve encouragement rather than targeted negativity.

Many are also praising Yoake no Iris for taking swift and transparent action, noting that not all agencies respond as firmly to online harassment.
