The Weibo Vision Conference 2025 turned into a mini fan festival on November 3 when producer Liu Wenyang confirmed that the hit drama Guardians of the Dafeng (大奉打更人) is officially getting a second season

Wrapping up his segment with the line, “See you in Season 2!”, Liu’s confident tone sent fans into overdrive.

Moments later, the drama’s official Weibo account echoed the excitement with a post captioned: “Dafeng’s soldiers, we’ll be with you till the end!

But the night truly belonged to Dylan Wang Hedi, who, sitting among the audience, pulled out the drama’s iconic “chest gong” gesture

The moment instantly went viral—fans screamed, hashtags exploded, and the entire hall practically lit up with excitement.

This level of fanfare hasn’t been seen since Hu Ge’s Blossoms Shanghai era, signalling Dylan Wang’s growing clout as one of the most bankable post-95 actors in the Chinese industry today.

Season 1: A Phenomenal Success Story

Some initially doubted Guardians of the Dafeng would keep up its early hype or compete with heavyweights like Joy of Life, but the stats proved otherwise.

The first season dominated the charts—ranking #1 in daily views within 18 days of release and maintaining that spot for 17 straight days, according to KoCloud data.

Each episode averaged a jaw-dropping 58.48 million views (Yunhe V30), and the show recorded 4,311 seconds of total ad airtime while collaborating with 282 brands, setting new platform records.

It didn’t stop there—international distribution deals broke industry barriers, and the series was named a “phenomenal hit” by Yuewen Group, which owns the rights to the original novel by Mai Bao Xiao Lang Jun.

Even months after its finale, Dafeng stayed in Tencent Video’s Top 6 for ten consecutive months, proving its unmatched staying power.

At the Weibo Vision Conference itself, it bagged the award for “Most Influential Work of 2025.”

A Drama That Redefined Its Genre

Guardians of the Dafeng Season 2

What makes Guardians of the Dafeng special is its genre-blending magic—mixing political intrigue, comedy, fantasy, and mystery into one seamless narrative.

Season 1 adapted the first two volumes of the source novel, leaving a massive world still unexplored.

The finale left fans clutching for answers:

  • What really happened to Xu Qi’an after using the Tianji technique?

  • Could Wei Yuan truly be revived?

  • What’s the true position of Jianzheng?

  • And will the fragile peace across Dafeng finally collapse?

To add to the buzz, certain censored scenes involving Luo Yuheng and Mu Nanzhi—crucial figures in the book—are rumoured to make their long-awaited appearance in Season 2.

In the novel, Luo Yuheng is not just a national master but also plays a pivotal emotional and spiritual role in Xu Qi’an’s arc, including the climactic battle against the emperor.

High Hopes for Season 2

Producer Liu Wenyang assured fans that development for Season 2 will move “ahead of schedule with top-tier quality.”

The next season aims to explore more daring elements from the novel, including “dual cultivation for levelling up” and “scientific metaphysics,” combining spiritual lore with intellectual wit.

The series also promises grand battle sequences, smarter politics, and a more emotionally charged narrative.

Dylan Wang will reprise his role as Xu Qi’an, a performance hailed by many as “effortlessly charismatic and perfectly matched.”

Fans are also eagerly hoping for the return of Tian Xiwei, Liu Yijun, and Mao Xiaohui—with Mao’s portrayal of Princess Huaiqing being praised as a “benchmark for supporting female roles” in male-centric historical dramas.

The Buzz So Far

Following the announcement, social media platforms from Weibo to Douyin have been flooded with fan theories, edits, and celebratory posts.

The hashtags #GuardiansOfTheDafengSeason2 and #DylanWangChestGong climbed trending charts within hours.

As of now, Guardians of the Dafeng stands as one of the few major C-dramas with both mass appeal and critical respect, balancing sharp storytelling with commercial success.

And with Dylan Wang leading the charge again, there’s little doubt that Season 2 will be one of 2026’s biggest must-watch events.

TL;DR:

  • Guardians of the Dafeng officially renewed for Season 2 at the Weibo Vision Conference 2025.

  • Producer Liu Wenyang and Dylan Wang electrify fans with the surprise reveal.

  • Season 1 set massive records—over 58 million average views per episode and multiple awards.
