Japanese actor Fukushi Sota is stepping into the spotlight once again, this time as the lead in Fuji TV’s upcoming drama Tokyo P.D. (警視庁広報2係), airing from January 2026, every Tuesday at 9 PM.
Joining him is veteran actor Ogata Naoto, marking their first collaboration in what’s set to be a compelling, socially grounded police drama that dives deep into the world behind press conferences and media control during criminal investigations.
🕵️♂️ Storyline: Where Crime Meets Public Relations
Unlike your usual cop dramas filled with high-speed chases and gunfire, Tokyo P.D. takes a clever detour.
The series follows Rintaro Imaizumi (played by Fukushi), a detective who unexpectedly gets reassigned to the PR division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department — a place he never wanted to be.
Haunted by trauma from a past case, Imaizumi dislikes reporters, yet now he must deal with them daily, managing information flow between the police and the media.
At the heart of the drama lies the PR Section 2, the team responsible for handling press releases, coordinating with journalists, and managing internal and external communications whenever a case breaks.
The show pulls viewers behind the curtain to reveal the delicate dance between transparency, control, and reputation — all while maintaining the moral weight of justice.

Fukushi Sota returns to a Fuji TV–produced drama for the first time in almost a decade since Koinaka (2015).
Known for roles in Kamen Rider Fourze, Strobe Edge, and Four Minutes of Marigold, Fukushi’s mature image makes him a perfect fit for this layered role.
Recently, he’s expanded his global presence through international projects like THE HEAD Season 2 and the Korean Netflix series Can You Translate This Love?.
Ogata Naoto plays Naoshi Ando, the seasoned head of the PR Section 2.
He’s a bit of a drinker and the life of any party, but his insight and sharp instincts — a remnant of his detective days — make him an invaluable mentor to Imaizumi.
Naoto Ogata, who earned early acclaim for Yushun ORACIÓN and later appeared in Kita no Kuni Kara and Anti Hero (2024), returns to Fuji TV dramas for the first time in over 20 years.
🎬 Behind the Scenes: Fuji TV’s Triple Experiment
Tokyo P.D. is more than just another procedural drama. Fuji TV is trying three new production methods with this series:
Writers’ Room System – Multiple screenwriters collaborate on the entire narrative, from the overall story arc to episode scripts.
It’s a creative approach already used in global hits like Angel Flight, but this marks Fuji TV’s first full-scale adoption.
New Setting Focus – This is the first Fuji TV series centred on the Public Relations Division of the police — a setting rarely explored in Japanese television.TV x Streaming Collaboration – The show’s Season 1 will air on terrestrial TV, followed by Season 2 streaming exclusively on FOD (Fuji On Demand), ensuring a cinematic experience that bridges traditional and digital audiences.
🎤 Comments and Early Buzz
Fukushi shared that the role challenges him to “explore the thin line between truth and manipulation,” while Ogata teased that the story “reveals how much of what we see on the news is shaped by unseen negotiations.”
Fans online have already expressed excitement, calling the pairing “unexpected but perfect,” and praising the “realistic take on police and media ethics.”
