Miyaoka Sumire Leaves FLAPSTAR Amid Contract Dispute With Agency

The rising idol world just got hit with another storm. Earlier this week, Miyaoka Sumire, a 22-year-old member of the six-girl idol group FLAPSTAR, announced through her lawyer that she had officially cancelled her management contract with R.D. MUSIC

Barely half an hour later, the agency fired back on social media, claiming they had in fact terminated her for breach of contract.

The double announcement — both appearing on X (formerly Twitter) — left fans baffled as to who actually made the first move.

Miyaoka Sumire’s Side: “Things Were Different From What I Was Told”

In her statement, Miyaoka Sumire said she had sent a legal notice to end her management deal, explaining that her experience after joining the group didn’t match what she’d been promised at the start.

“There were discrepancies between what I was told when signing and what actually happened after joining,” she wrote.

She also opened up about struggling with her health during activities, sharing that even after catching the flu, she was told she had “let her guard down” — a remark that made her feel forced to perform despite being unwell.

The young idol said these experiences made it difficult to maintain trust with the company.

When she asked to leave, she claimed her request was rejected and that she was told things like “pay the penalty” and “is that all your resolve amounts to?”.

Feeling cornered, Miyaoka Sumire said she had no choice but to resolve the matter legally.

Agency Fires Back: “Her Claims Are Not True”

Just 30 minutes after her post, R.D. MUSIC issued their own public statement, saying that Miyaoka had been terminated for breach of contract, and insisting that her account was “factually incorrect.”

The agency added that they considered her claims defamatory and would take appropriate action to protect their reputation.

They also apologised to fans, writing,

“We sincerely apologise for any concern caused to those who have supported her so far.”

A Short But Eventful Journey

FLAPSTAR, formed in September 2021, has slowly been building its presence in Japan’s crowded idol scene.

Miyaoka Sumire only joined as a candidate member on 20 September 2025, making her time in the group less than two months.

In a hopeful blog post back in September, she’d written that joining FLAPSTAR had “changed her life” and that she was looking forward to “both the challenges and fun” ahead — words that now read bittersweet in hindsight.

Fans React

Fans online were split — some expressed concern for Miyaoka’s wellbeing, while others urged both sides to handle things transparently

A few commented that it’s “heart-breaking to see young idols pushed too hard,” while others said they hoped the situation could be cleared up without more drama.
