If you’ve been craving a Chinese short drama with the same cheeky undercover-family energy as Spy x Family but wrapped in sleek action and slow-burn tension, Disguised Family (伪装家族) might just be your new obsession.

This upcoming mini-series mixes covert missions, reluctant teamwork, and a surprisingly wholesome found-family arc — all packed into the quick, addictive format that Chinese short dramas have absolutely mastered in recent years.

At the heart of the story is Yan Yingjun, played by Yang Yeming, an elite agent who’s used to operating alone and keeping everyone at arm’s length.

His new assignment, however, throws him way out of his comfort zone.

Upcoming C-Drama Disguised Family Promises Action, Romance, and Found-Family Warmth

He’s forced to partner with Nan Caiyun, portrayed by Tang Jiawen, a former agent who walked away from her organisation and has been quietly raising her daughter, Nan Xiaotang.

Instead of the usual stealth missions and coded briefings, the pair must pose as a married couple and infiltrate a high-society parents-teachers association — with their “daughter” Xiaotang, played by the charming Feng Mi, acting as the tiny but fearless helper who befriends their target’s son.

It’s a classic undercover setup, but the execution feels anything but typical.

The drama teases emotional layers beneath the disguises, with Yan Yingjun’s voiceover hinting at the inevitable question: once the mission ends, does their makeshift family end with it?

Nan Caiyun, sharper than she lets on, throws back an even more cutting line — “Who are you, really?”

It’s giving domestic tension, covert romance, and sleeper-hit vibes all at once.

If The Killer Is Also Romantic was your cup of tea back when it dropped, this one looks ready to deliver that same slick Mr. and Mrs.

Smith-style charm — but with the added twist of a child who unintentionally steals every scene she’s in.

It’s a premise you rarely see in C-dramas, and honestly, it’s refreshing to get something playful but grounded, thrilling but warm-hearted.

Disguised Family Chinese Drama Release date short series

Filming wrapped quickly, running from December 2024 to January 2025, which is perfectly normal for short-drama production schedules.

Since reservations are already open on major platforms, the release is likely just around the corner.

Based on current timelines, an estimated premiere in early to mid-2026 feels very realistic.

The cast rounds out with familiar faces including Mu Le’en, Yu Yifu, Krystal Zhang, Kenneth Zhu, Wang Zhonghao, Xi Tong, Wang Lan, Du Yutong, and Fan Yize in guest appearances.

Director Zhou Jiuqin steers the project, adding to expectations that the show will balance action, family dynamics, and light romance with ease.

So what can viewers expect?

A sharp, fast-paced blend of action and undercover comedy, emotional tension as the “fake” family starts feeling a bit too real, and the kind of breezy storytelling short dramas thrive on.
