The drama Yummy Yummy Yummy (宴遇永安) finally wrapped up on October 21, with a finale that left fans both emotional and confused. Starring Li Yunrui and Wang Yinglu, the show kicked off as a breezy culinary rom-com but ended with a wild time-travel detour and a tear-soaked reunion in the modern day.

In the last episode, Shen Shaoguang (Wang Yinglu) and Lin Yan (Li Yunrui) finally tie the knot after surviving endless family drama.

For a while, they were believed to be related (yep, that old chestnut) thanks to a misunderstanding in the Shen family tree.

Thankfully, Shen Shaojie (Chang Long) clears things up — turns out their real ancestor wasn’t Lin Yan at all, but his mate Pei Fei. Cue sighs of relief and a warm, romantic wedding.

But happiness doesn’t last long.

Yummy Yummy Yummy Viewers Slam Finale, Douban Score Drops Overnight

Prince Zhao’s son, Li Ang (Ma Hao) torches the Shen family restaurant, and in a desperate bid to save her husband, Shen Shaoguang pushes Lin Yan out — only to be mysteriously flung back to the modern world with her family, leaving Lin Yan trapped in the past.

It’s a gut-punch of an ending. Lin Yan’s final scenes — running the restaurant alone, rewriting their story, holding onto her memory — hit viewers right in the feels.

Then, in the present day, Shen Shaoguang spots a man who looks exactly like him outside the old restaurant ruins.

He smiles at her, she tears up, and that’s it — the bittersweet full-circle moment fans weren’t ready for.

🍶 Viewers React: “Nice Ending, But Where’s the Flavour?”

Despite a touching finale, Yummy Yummy Yummy didn’t quite deliver the feast it promised.

Pitched as a “culinary romance”, the show shockingly featured very few cooking scenes.

Yummy Yummy Yummy Faces Backlash as Douban Ratings and Heat Index Fall Sharply

Lin Yan’s revenge subplot? Half-baked. Palace politics? Overcooked.

By the end, it felt more like reheated leftovers than a gourmet meal.

Scripted by Ji Sangrou and Ding Lu — the duo behind Love in the Clouds (入青雲) — the writing just didn’t hit the same.

Compared to Love in the Clouds, this one’s pacing was uneven, the emotional build-up wobbly, and the finale too chaotic to tie everything neatly.

Even the sponsors seemed to lose their appetite; several ads quietly vanished from its final broadcast week.

Still, the chemistry between Li Yunrui and Wang Yinglu saved it from total disaster.

The pair already earned praise for their previous drama Blossom (九重紫), and once again, their on-screen connection shone brighter than the story itself.

Many fans online are already campaigning for them to reunite — hopefully in a modern setting this time, and definitely without time portals or burning buildings.

💬 Douban Drama — When Fans Turn Food Critics

Here’s where it gets spicy.

Yummy Yummy Yummy gets low Douban ratings

Yummy Yummy Yummy is now facing an unexpected wave of one-star reviews on Douban, China’s biggest rating platform for film, TV, and culture.

Some fans genuinely felt disappointed by the writing, while others suspect coordinated spam attacks.

On Douban, a show’s rating is more than just a number — it’s a reputation marker.

Low scores can tank public perception and even affect future casting chances for its stars.

Unlike flashy commercial platforms, Douban’s user base is notoriously serious, vocal, and often unforgiving — especially when storytelling feels lazy or unfinished.

🎙 Li Yunrui Responds: “I Don’t Bother Checking Ratings Anymore”

When asked about the Douban backlash, Li Yunrui kept it classy.

He admitted he hasn’t checked the ratings for his recent dramas at all, preferring to focus on his next projects instead.

“Online ratings aren’t what they used to be,” he said.

“Nowadays, it’s easy for bots to flood them — good or bad. I just want to keep improving my craft.”

Fans largely backed him up, saying he did what he could with the material.

After all, Yummy Yummy Yummy’s problems weren’t with the cast — they were baked into the script.

🍲 TL;DR

Yummy Yummy Yummy tried to serve up a warm romantic meal but ended up mixing too many ingredients — time travel, palace intrigue, and emotional tragedy — leaving viewers both full and frustrated.

The finale may have closed the story, but it didn’t quite satisfy the craving.

Still, the Li Yunrui–Wang Yinglu pairing remains a highlight, and if nothing else, it proves one thing: even when the recipe goes wrong, good chemistry never spoils.
