When Worlds Collide: Wang Yibo Meets Tennis Legend Novak Djokovic at Shanghai Masters

Chinese superstar Wang Yibo had a full-on fan moment when he caught up with Novak Djokovic at the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2025, and it seems the feeling was mutual.

The Serbian legend not only recognised Yibo in the crowd but also dropped some genuinely warm praise during his post-match interview.

After his comeback victory against Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann, Djokovic mentioned he was “really happy” to see Wang Yibo cheering from the stands.

He’s one of the biggest stars in China and also a really nice person,” Djokovic said with a grin, adding that they’d first met last year during a brand event at the Great Wall.

Even though it rained that day, the two still managed to squeeze in a quick game on a mini court — and apparently, they’ve kept in touch ever since.

It’s great that he came tonight. I heard a few days ago he might show up, and it’s always amazing to have that kind of support here,” Djokovic added.

After the match, Wang Yibo headed courtside, where Djokovic personally handed him a signed jersey and posed for photos — a small moment that sent Chinese social media into meltdown.

Fans couldn’t stop gushing about how casual and respectful their interaction was, calling it a wholesome “idol meets idol” crossover.

The vibe at the Qizhong Tennis Center was electric, with Djokovic visibly touched by the crowd’s energy.

He thanked Chinese fans for their continued love and said their support was one of the reasons he decided to return to Shanghai this year.

I’ve always felt the warmth here,” he told reporters.

The fans are amazing — their energy lifts me every time I play.

It’s not every day that sports and entertainment icons collide like this.

Wang Yibo, who’s known not just as a singer and actor but also as a motorsport racer, has been open about his admiration for Djokovic’s discipline and sportsmanship.

Their unexpected friendship — born from a rainy day on the Great Wall — has now become a fan-favourite story.

And while Wang Yibo might’ve been there as a fan this time, it’s safe to say the mutual respect between these two global figures runs deep.

As one fan cheekily put it on Weibo: “Only Wang Yibo could make Djokovic smile like he just won another Grand Slam.”
