Singer and actor Julaiti Jurat Kutra (居來提) has hit out at what he called “heartless” online accusations linking him to the tragic death of his close friend, actor Alan Yu Menglong

The Xinjiang-born performer took to Weibo on 27 October to clear his name after social media users accused him of writing his emotional tribute song “Are You Listening?” before the incident — implying he might’ve known something beforehand.

The drama began after Yu Menglong’s sudden death in September, following reports of a fatal fall that left the entire Chinese entertainment industry stunned.

Within hours of the news, Julaiti released the tearful ballad dedicated to his late mate — a track filled with raw grief that moved fans across China.

During one performance, he even included an acrostic line spelling “There are too many bad people”, which some netizens twisted into a cryptic hint at foul play.

“I Never Thought a Song Could Be Demonised Like This”

In his post, Julaiti didn’t mince words:

“The song was written for my best friend. I never expected it to be twisted into something so sinister.”

He explained the piece was penned purely as a way to process his grief and celebrate a 12-year friendship, not as a premeditated clue.

When asked how he managed to release it so quickly, Julaiti clapped back, saying:

“Did I even write a full song? I just wrote four simple lines from the heart. Now that’s suspicious too?”

He added bitterly that if Yu Menglong were alive to see the chaos, “he’d be disappointed seeing people turn grief into gossip.”

Past Ties Fuel Conspiracy

The mess got worse when netizens dug up Julaiti’s past partnership with actor Fan Shiqi, who’s also been dragged into online rumours surrounding Yu Menglong’s death.

The two once formed a pop duo called JF BROS, and that old connection became instant fuel for internet theorists — despite no evidence or official reports suggesting foul play.

For Julaiti, what started as a tribute to a fallen friend has turned into a public nightmare.

The singer now finds himself grieving while fending off baseless accusations, with fans divided between sympathy and suspicion.

A Tragic Story Twisted by Speculation

During a live performance in late September, Julaiti called Yu Menglong “a good brother who’s gone to a more beautiful world” and “the pride of Xinjiang”, remembering how Yu had represented their hometown at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala last year.

As of now, there’s been no official link between either Julaiti or Fan Shiqi and the actor’s death.

But the situation has highlighted just how quickly mourning can be mistaken for manipulation in the online world.

Yu Menglong’s name, once tied to warmth and gentle artistry, now echoes through a haze of rumours, grief, and internet drama — a cruel twist in what should’ve been a moment of remembrance.

Julaiti’s closing words summed it up perfectly:

“Please remember his name — that’s all I ever wanted.”
