| Tang Wei’s Return to the Small Screen? Actress Reportedly Teams Up with Jackson Yee for “Peacock” |
After years of staying clear of TV dramas, Tang Wei’s name has popped back into the spotlight — and fans reckon she might just be returning to the small screen alongside Jackson Yee.
Word on the street is that Tang Wei has quietly signed on for the upcoming period drama Peacock (《孔雀》), which adapts The Romance of Supporting Characters from the Three Kingdoms by Ma Boyong — more precisely, the tale Southeast Fly the Peacocks.
The story takes place during the Han Dynasty, with Jackson Yee reportedly playing a government official who stumbles upon an unsolved case.
In his quest for truth, he crosses paths with a guzheng musician (rumoured to be played by Tang Wei).
Their bond deepens as they find themselves caught in a tangle of political schemes and assassination plots. Proper dramatic stuff, that.
A Return After Seven Years
If true, this would be Tang Wei’s first TV project since Ming Dynasty in 2019.
The actress, who’s spent recent years scooping up major awards for her film work in Korea — including Best Actress at the Blue Dragon Awards and Baeksang Arts Awards for Decision to Leave — has kept a relatively low TV profile since marrying director Kim Tae-yong back in 2014.
Some insiders say Peacock has already started filming in Ningde, Fujian, with Jackson Yee spotted on Beishuang Island where large set pieces have been built.
Fans, though, are keeping their eyes peeled for a glimpse of Tang Wei — no on-set snaps of her have surfaced yet.
Guest Role or Leading Lady?
There’s a bit of confusion floating about, mind you.
A few reports claim Tang Wei might only make a special guest appearance, while others insist she’s taking on the full lead role.
Until there’s an official announcement, everyone’s treating it as a bit of a guessing game — though that hasn’t stopped fans from getting hyped.
A small pocket of viewers, though, remember Tang Wei’s comments from Ming Dynasty days — she once half-joked she might not be fit for historical dramas after fans thought her look didn’t quite suit the genre.
Still, with her maturity and acting finesse honed through years of film work, Peacock could easily flip that narrative.
Production Buzz and Casting Twists
The drama’s being directed by Xin Shuang, the same mind behind The Long Season, which has fans expecting a visually stunning, story-rich production.
Rumour had it at one point that Shu Qi was also eyed for the female lead, but plans fell through — ironic, given her latest film Searching for Her barely lasted three hours in cinemas before being pulled, sparking online chatter.
All said and done, Peacock is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about upcoming period dramas of 2025 — whether Tang Wei’s return is full-time or a fleeting cameo, it’s sure to draw major attention once official word drops.
