Even after his sudden passing, Chinese actor Alan Yu Menglong is still quietly helping those in need.

On 11 September, the 36-year-old tragically lost his life after falling from a building, with police quickly ruling the case an “accident caused by intoxication.”

But as videos, speculation and conspiracy theories swirled online, something far gentler came to light: his habit of charitable giving has outlived him.

Ten days after his death, netizens noticed that donations under Yu Menglong’s name were still reaching charity foundations.

A certificate dated 20 September showed him as the donor, despite his official date of death being the 11th.

The discovery left many fans both puzzled and moved, sparking discussions across Weibo and beyond.

The explanation appears to be simple yet profound.

During his lifetime, Yu Menglong set up recurring monthly donations via platforms such as Alipay and WeChat Pay.

These automated transactions, linked directly to his accounts, continued to roll out as scheduled.

Chinese media clarified that what people were seeing was “an account under Yu Menglong’s name” — not a fan tribute, nor a social media profile, but his own financial donation arrangements, still active even after his passing.

Yu Menglong wasn’t new to charitable work.

When devastating floods hit Henan province, he donated 500,000 yuan (around £55,000).

He also gave 103,000 yuan (about £11,500) to cover treatment for children with leukaemia.

These acts were widely reported and praised at the time, but the continued donations, now beyond his lifetime, carry an even more poignant weight.

Fans online described it as “the purest form of legacy” — a reminder that even when someone’s gone, the good they’ve set in motion can keep on moving.

Meanwhile, questions still hang heavy over his death.

The official conclusion — an accidental fall after drinking — was issued swiftly, but many netizens remain unconvinced.

Online speculation has driven a global petition on AVAAZ titled “Justice for Yu Menglong,” which has already attracted more than 180,000 signatures, calling for deeper investigation and transparency.

Whether or not the authorities revisit the case, Yu Menglong’s story has clearly struck a chord far beyond China.

To his fans, he is not only remembered as an actor but also as someone who built kindness into his daily life, in ways that continue even after he is no longer here.
