Chinese actress Ireine Song Yiren, best known for her role in At Café 6, is now at the centre of a heavy backlash online following her alleged connection to the late actor Alan Yu Menglong’s case.

Since Alan Yu’s passing in September, discussions around his death have continued to spiral online, with rumours spreading across social media that dragged in several public figures and so-called “second-generation elites.”

Reports suggest around 17 people have been linked to the controversy, sparking a mass boycott from netizens.

Projects Pulled, Scenes Cut, and Dramas Taken Down

The ripple effect hit Song Yiren hard.

Her new costume drama Unmet Clouds, Unmet You (不遇雲裳不遇你) was taken offline barely two days after release due to mass reporting.

Even her previously recorded variety show “My Little Girl” (我家那閨女) has now edited her out entirely — fans noticed her complete disappearance from recent episodes.

To make things worse, Song was recently accused of hiring online marketers but failing to pay them, another wave of claims that worsened her reputation online.

Despite this, the actress hasn’t gone silent — she recently posted holiday snaps on Weibo, seemingly unfazed by the growing storm.

But the public boycott hasn’t cooled off, and now her name no longer appears on Douban, China’s biggest entertainment database.

That’s usually a big sign that an artist’s profile has been marked as “high-risk” within the industry.

“High-Risk Artist” Label: A Career Killer in Chinese Showbiz

In Chinese entertainment, once an artist is branded as “high-risk,” making a comeback is almost impossible.

Even after public outrage dies down, they still risk being reported again or quietly erased from platforms.

A similar fate befell big names like Angelababy (Yang Ying), who was semi-blacklisted after the Crazy Horse Show controversy last year.

Although she’s now technically “unbanned,” she’s nowhere near her former superstar status.

Another example is Zhang Jiani, who gained fame as “the most beautiful consort” in Story of Yanxi Palace

After a series of controversies, her online presence has practically vanished, echoing the same pattern now facing Song Yiren.

A Silent Exit from the Spotlight

For Song Yiren, who was once seen as one of the more promising faces of Chinese youth dramas, this sudden fall from grace is both swift and brutal.

With productions pulling out, shows editing her out, and platforms scrubbing her name clean, her chance to return to the small screen seems close to zero — at least for now.

Unless the industry winds shift again, Song’s once-bright career might remain in limbo, another casualty in the long list of Chinese celebs caught in online storms they can’t control.
