Japanese pop sensation FRUITS ZIPPER are levelling up once again — their signature hit “NEW KAWAII” has officially crossed 100 million streams, the fastest in the group’s history.
According to Oricon’s latest weekly streaming chart (dated October 27), the track has clocked over 100,060,254 plays, surpassing their previous viral smash “Watashi no Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro”.
Released on 22 March 2024, “NEW KAWAII” stands as a full embodiment of the group’s concept — spreading the unique, ever-evolving energy of Harajuku culture to the world.
The song fuses sweet idol pop with edgy confidence, defining their idea of what they call “New Kawaii” — a reimagined, modern cuteness for a new generation.
“It’s still surreal,” says the group
Speaking to Oricon after the milestone, the members couldn’t hide their excitement.
“We’re absolutely over the moon,” shared Mana Manaka. “A lot of fans discovered us through ‘Watashi no Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro’, but ‘NEW KAWAII’ represents who we are now — that message of ‘new cuteness’ is everything we stand for.”
Member Amane Tsukiashi added,
“We’ve always carried the slogan ‘From Harajuku to the world’, and I think this song helped people understand that energy in a really clear way.”
Eyes on Tokyo Dome – and beyond
With their Tokyo Dome concert set for 1 February 2026, FRUITS ZIPPER are on the verge of achieving one of their earliest dreams.
“That’s the immediate goal — to fill the Dome with our fans and make it unforgettable,” said Luna Nakagawa.
But they’re already thinking further ahead:
“After Tokyo Dome, we’d love to appear at Coachella or other big international festivals,” Nakagawa revealed.
“Artists like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Atarashii Gakko! have paved the way for Japanese acts overseas — we want to follow that path and bring New Kawaii to global stages.”
From “Harajuku to the world”
2025 has been a busy year for the group — a 3rd anniversary tour, major festival slots, and constant new releases have kept FRUITS ZIPPER in the spotlight.
Their steady rise mirrors the renewed global interest in Japan’s youth culture — an aesthetic blend of fun, freedom, and fashion-forward individuality that’s catching eyes from LA to London.
The group wrapped up their Asian tour earlier this year to sold-out venues, sparking speculation that a world tour could be next on the cards for 2026.
A message to their fans
Closing their statement, Suzuka Chinzei spoke on behalf of the group:
“Every FRUITS ZIPPER song carries our message of joy, creativity, and individuality. To all our Furuppa (fans), old and new, thank you for making ‘NEW KAWAII’ what it is today. We’ll keep working hard so our music reaches even more people around the world!”
TL;DR
FRUITS ZIPPER’s “NEW KAWAII” just hit 100 million streams in record time — their second ever track to reach that mark.
With Tokyo Dome and international dreams in sight, the group’s “Harajuku to the world” motto is starting to look more like a promise than a slogan.
