Only a Handful of Fans? Fan Shiqi’s Concert Buzzed Online for All the Wrong Reasons |
Chinese singer-actor Fan Shiqi has found himself trending again — and not for the reasons most artists would hope.
Reports began circulating that his upcoming Chengdu stop of a solo concert tour had sold just around 15 tickets.
The low turnout claims arrive at a tricky time for Fan Shiqi.
His name has repeatedly been mentioned online in connection to the ongoing controversy around the late actor Yu Menglong, whose sudden passing earlier in September left the public unsettled.

The cause of Yu Menglong’s death has yet to be fully clarified, and speculation has filled the gap.
One reason for the backlash is a list of attendees at a reported private gathering the night before Alan Yu’s death, which included Fan Shiqi’s name.
An old video clip circulating online has been interpreted by some as evidence of his presence, but Fan Shiqi has firmly denied the claims.

He issued an alibi, stressed he wasn’t there, and labelled the chatter “baseless rumours” and “defamation”.
Despite that, suspicion has lingered among certain netizens.
Comments ranging from calling the concert turnout “karma” to suggesting he’s been “left behind” have become common across Chinese social media.
Fan Shiqi isn’t just facing issues on stage — the controversy has started bleeding into his acting career.
He features in Zhao Lusi’s new drama Love Ambition, but even that has triggered backlash.

Some viewers have expressed frustration, saying he shouldn’t receive promotional spotlight until the Yu Menglong case is cleared up.
This has also placed Zhao Lusi in an awkward position, as she was unintentionally dragged into conversations despite having no involvement in the controversy whatsoever.
While some online voices have openly criticised him, others have pointed out that no official findings link Fan Shiqi to the tragedy, urging people not to rush to judgement.
Still, the perception of his public image seems to have taken a hit.
