Whispers of ‘Inverted Fate’: Zhao Lusi Sparks Buzz Over Alleged New Drama with Tian Xuning!

The Chinese drama fandom is in full gossip mode again — this time over whispers that Zhao Lusi might be teaming up with rising star Tian Xuning in Youku’s upcoming fantasy romance drama Inverted Fate (攻玉).

It all started last week when rumours began circulating on Weibo, claiming the two actors had been cast as leads.

The alleged pairing immediately went viral, with related hashtags storming the trending charts.

While there’s been no official confirmation from the production team or the actors’ camps, the internet hasn’t stopped talking since.

A Major Comeback Move for Zhao Lusi?

Beyond the casting rumours, fans have been deep-diving into what this means for Zhao Lusi’s career.

Reports suggest her involvement in Inverted Fate might signal her full transition from Galaxy Cool Entertainment to Tiger Whale Entertainment — a newer company said to be backed by Alibaba.

Chinese outlets claim Zhao Lusi managed to end her Galaxy Cool contract peacefully without paying compensation.

Instead, she reportedly agreed to mentor younger artists for two years, which fans see as a win–win deal, considering her long-standing reputation for helping newcomers.

Interestingly, Tiger Whale is rumoured to have acquired Galaxy Cool shortly after Alibaba’s exit, which left the older company struggling financially.

With this new chapter, Zhao Lusi is said to have landed two major projects — Inverted Fate, and another still-secret mystery drama.

Unfortunately, based on updates from both major fanbases, the rumours are completely false — they are not starring in this drama.

From Love’s Ambition to a New Fantasy Epic

Fresh off the success of Love’s Ambition (许我耀眼) with William Chan — which dominated viewership charts and even bagged “Drama of the Year” — Zhao Lusi’s next steps were always going to draw attention.

The hit series revived her momentum after a rough patch where, by her own admission, she’d been sidelined and left without new roles by her old agency.

Now, if these rumours are true, Inverted Fate could be her next big move — and Tian Xuning, known for his breakout in Revenged Love (逆愛), might just be the perfect co-star to balance her screen energy.

The Story Behind Inverted Fate

Adapted from Ning Shan’s popular novel, Inverted Fate tells the story of Teng Yuyi (rumoured to be played by Zhao Lusi), the daughter of a military general who’s mysteriously killed.

One day, she wakes up a year before her death, armed with a mystical sword known as the Xiaoya Blade, and sets out to rewrite her fate.

Along her journey, she clashes — and later falls for — Crown Prince Lin Chengyou (Tian Xuning), a relationship that tests destiny itself.

It’s got revenge, reincarnation, and forbidden love written all over it — exactly the kind of high-stakes fantasy Chinese drama fans love.

Casting Shake-Ups and Fan Reactions

Earlier on, Inverted Fate was reportedly offered to Xiao Zhan and Sun Zhenni.

But following Sun Zhenni’s lukewarm reception in The Blossoming Love and online controversy around her appearance, the production seems to have shifted direction, opting for a fresh cast.

The prospect of Zhao Lusi and Tian Xuning working together has been met with huge excitement online.

Many fans are already calling it “the next mega IP hit,” while others are taking a more cautious “wait-for-official-news” stance.

As of now, both Tiger Whale Entertainment and Youku have kept completely silent — but that’s done nothing to stop the buzz.

If confirmed, this pairing could easily be one of next year’s most talked-about on-screen duos.
