Golden Horse 2025: Ariel Lin Scores Best Actress Nod for Deep Quiet Room

It’s been two whole decades since Ariel Lin Yi-chen last walked into the Golden Horse Awards as a Best Actress nominee — and now, she’s back in the running.

The Taiwanese star has officially been nominated for her performance in Shen Ko-shang’s Deep Quiet Room, a psychological drama that has been buzzing quietly in film circles all year.

Ariel Lin admitted she felt both emotional and grateful at the announcement, saying:

I am thankful for the excellent team’s strongest support and platform, which gave me the opportunity to be nominated for this role. I look forward to seeing everyone at the ceremony.”

This marks her first nomination since 2003’s Love Me, If You Can, proving that patience really does pay off in the long game of film careers.

Ariel Lin Competes With Fan Bingbing, Rene Liu in Golden Horse Best Actress Race

It’s not just Ariel Lin shining — the film itself bagged an impressive seven nominations, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor for Joseph Chang, and Best Director for Shen Ko-shang.

With that kind of lineup, the movie is shaping up to be one of this year’s big contenders.

Shen Ko-shang himself is no stranger to the Golden Horse stage, but having both leads nominated alongside his own Best Director nod has set expectations high for November’s ceremony.

Ariel’s competition for Best Actress is stacked with big names across Asia. She’ll be sharing the spotlight with:

  • Caitlin Fang (A Foggy Tale)

  • Rene Liu (Unexpected Courage)

  • Fan Bingbing (Mother Bhumi)

  • Alexia Kao (Family Matters)

It’s a diverse lineup of veteran icons and rising stars, making this year’s category one of the most talked-about in recent memory.

Ariel Lin Returns to Golden Horse Spotlight Two Decades After First Nomination

While Ariel Lin’s return stole headlines, the Golden Horse has also brought in a fresh wave of new faces, with rising actors like Mu Sen and Liu Jing landing first-time nominations in the New Performer category.

Meanwhile, family ensemble drama Family Matters received multiple nods across acting categories, with its entire cast preparing to walk the red carpet together.

The buzz around this year’s ceremony is that it feels like a reunion of industry favourites while also passing the torch to the next generation.

For Ariel Lin, though, it’s a particularly special milestone — twenty years between nominations, and still proving she’s got the range and staying power to stand among Asia’s finest.
