Wang Yibo has once again shown he’s more than just an actor and performer — he’s a serious contender on the race track. Over the weekend, he and teammate Pan Junlin drove car No. 85 to a strong third-place finish in the AM class final of the China GT Championship 2025, held at the iconic Shanghai International Circuit.

A Star Among Professionals

This year’s CTCC China Auto Racing Professional Championship drew the biggest and most diverse lineup to date.

Seasoned drivers such as Zhang Zhiqiang, Xie Xinzhe, Zhu Dawei, and Sun Zheng were joined by popular celebrity drivers including Aarif Lee, Xu Weizhou, and of course, Wang Yibo.

Their involvement has been key in pulling new audiences towards motorsport in China, turning racing into a sport watched not only by car enthusiasts but also by mainstream fans.

From Debut to Podiums

For Yibo, this podium isn’t a one-off. Since making his professional car racing debut in October 2024 at the GT3 GTSC Series Zhuhai with renowned driver Fang Junyu, he’s been steadily proving his skill.

The pair finished second in the first round and went on to take the top spot in the second.

Then, in March 2025, the duo competed again in the China GT Championship pre-season warm-up at Ningbo International Circuit, where they secured second place despite battling harsh weather.

Before stepping into the world of car racing, Yibo already had a strong motorsport background.

He was a motorcycle racer for the Wanlida Yamaha team, earning first place in the Group D Rookie Class and second overall in the Mixed Class at the Asian Road Race in Zhuhai.

Many fans still remember his dramatic 2020 crash at the Zhuhai ZIC Motorcycle Race, when his No. 85 motorcycle went down on the final lap — a moment that sparked huge discussion online.

Beyond the Race Track

Wang Yibo Clinches Third Place at China GT Championship 2025

Yibo’s love for speed and adrenaline isn’t limited to racing. Over the past year, he’s dived deep into extreme sports.

In September 2024, he completed a rock climbing project in Yangshuo, Guangxi, while in February 2025 he trained in ice climbing at the Yalong and Renlongba glaciers in Tibet.

His adventurous spirit and willingness to push limits continue to make him a favourite among fans, both in the entertainment industry and in the world of sport.

His third-place win at the China GT Championship 2025, Wang Yibo has added yet another milestone to his growing racing career — and judging by his track record, it’s safe to say this won’t be the last time we see him standing on the podium
