Overdo Teaser Unveils Zhang Linghe & Wang Churan’s Explosive Romance in 1920s Shanghai |
Zhang Linghe is not one to stay quiet for long. After a rollercoaster run of roles — from Love Between Fairy and Devil and My Journey to You, through the grand politics of Story of Kunning Palace, to this year’s softer romance The Best Thing — the 26-year-old actor is making another big swing.
His recent youth drama Our Generation, alongside Zhao Jinmai, didn’t exactly set the ratings on fire, but Zhang Linghe looks ready to bounce back with a vengeance in Overdo (这一秒过火), a high-stakes Republican-era romance drama that just dropped its first teaser.
And let’s just say — it’s chaos, passion, and melodrama all rolled into sixty seconds.

Overdo Teaser Sets Fans Buzzing with Zhang Linghe–Wang Churan Chemistry |
The one-minute clip, released earlier today, instantly lit up Chinese social platforms, clocking more than 50 million views on Douyin. Fans were left buzzing over its blend of sweeping romance and explosive conflict.
Four moments in particular are driving the chatter:
The fiery kiss and embrace between Zhang Linghe’s Murong Qingfeng and Wang Churan’s Ren Susu.
The bullet sacrifice, with Susu literally taking a shot to shield Qingfeng.
The slap heard round the fandom, where Qingfeng steals a kiss from Susu on her wedding day to his own brother (played by Fu Xinbo) and gets struck hard across the face.
The violent tension, including scenes of Zhang pointing a gun at her and even tightening a measuring tape around her throat.

Netizens have already dubbed the series “full-course dog blood” — shorthand for melodrama at its most outrageous, where every scene cranks up the conflict to eleven.
Overdo — Love, Betrayal, and Flames in 1920s Shanghai
Adapted from Fei Wo Si Cun’s novel If I Hadn’t Met You in This Second, the story plants itself in the smoky, jazz-age backdrop of 1920s Shanghai.
Ren Susu (Wang Churan), an orphan with steel in her veins, saves poor student Murong Qingfeng (Zhang Linghe). Their bond soon spells tragedy, however.
Eight years on, Susu returns under a new identity, seeking the truth about her parents’ mysterious deaths — only to find herself caught in a cruel fate.

She fakes her own death, vanishes for three years, and later re-emerges as the daughter of a wealthy overseas businessman.
The love that reignites between Susu and Qingfeng is tender yet cursed, tested by family betrayal, hidden secrets, and a society on fire.
The teaser juxtaposes the soft — kisses beneath falling snow, warm gazes framed by flower petals — with the brutal — Wang Churan being shot off a moving train, the lovers torn apart by walls of flames.
Both leads are riding their strongest wave yet.

Zhang Linghe has matured into one of the most recognisable faces of post-95 actors, while Wang Churan cemented her breakout status with Story of Kunning Palace and the recent juggernaut Joy of Life 2.
Pairing them together is practically bait for fans of heavy romance dramas, and judging from the teaser’s reception, it’s working.
Love grows wildly in the ashes, unspoken truths burn quietly in the dark.
