| “Respecting Each Other’s Paths”: Ono Kensho and Hanazawa Kana Confirm Divorce |
Voice actor Ono Kensho (35) and voice actress Hanazawa Kana (36) have officially announced their divorce, sharing the news with fans on 14 September today through coordinated posts on their social media accounts.
A Respectful but Painful Decision
In a joint statement, the pair wrote:
“After much discussion, we have decided to part ways. Due to differences in our daily rhythms, it became difficult to secure time together as a married couple. In the midst of those differences, we chose to respect each other and walk our separate paths.”
They also apologised to fans and colleagues, saying:
“We are deeply sorry to deliver such news to everyone who has warmly supported us as a couple until now. From here on, we will continue to work hard in our respective careers, and we hope for your continued support.”

The news quickly spread online, with many expressing disbelief.
Comments ranged from “I thought they were a picture-perfect couple” to “the reason is so sad—it’s just the clash of busy schedules.”

Ono and Hanazawa first went public with their marriage in July 2020, sending ripples through the anime and voice acting community.
Their union was widely celebrated at the time, with both being high-profile talents in the industry.
Ono Kensho is best known for voicing Harry Potter in the Japanese dub since childhood, as well as standout anime roles such as Kuroko Tetsuya in Kuroko’s Basketball, Akutagawa Ryuunosuke in Bungou Stray Dogs, and Nanase Riku in IDOLiSH7.

Hanazawa Kana has her own iconic portfolio, including Sengoku Nadeko in Bakemonogatari, Kawamoto Hinata in March Comes in Like a Lion, Nakano Ichika in The Quintessential Quintuplets, and Kanroji Mitsuri in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
While the announcement marks the end of their marriage, both stressed their commitment to continue thriving in their professional lives.
Given their ongoing popularity and heavy involvement in major anime titles, fans will likely still hear plenty from both voices—just not as a couple.
