Nagano Mei to Make Korean Drama Comeback with Studio Dragon

Japanese Star Nagano Mei Poised for International Push with Korean Drama
Studio Dragon Reportedly Eyeing Nagano Mei for New Global Project

Japanese actress Nagano Mei (25) may soon be making a surprising return to the screen—not in Tokyo, but in Seoul.

Word in the industry is that Korea’s heavyweight drama production house Studio Dragon has quietly approached her team about a possible new project.

A Fresh Start Overseas?

Nagano Mei Scandal with Tanaka Kei and Sakaguchi Kentaro

Nagano Mei, who’s been lying low after a string of cancelled jobs in Japan, seems to have caught the attention of the Korean entertainment world.

Studio Dragon, known for global hits like Crash Landing on You, Sweet Home, and Vincenzo, is reportedly considering her for a drama still in the planning stage.

For Nagano Mei, the timing couldn’t be better. Insiders say she’s been preparing for an overseas push for some time, studying English and even testing the waters in Hollywood.

That ambition surfaced again in late July, when she popped up at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, greeting the audience in both English and French—smoothly sidestepping any reference to her recent troubles back home.

Studio Dragon’s Power Move

Even though Nagano Mei herself denied the affair scandal, her agency kept cancelling her jobs one after another in Japan. They must have already known about other issues, like with Sakaguchi Kentaro, and decided it was no longer manageable.

Nagano Mei’s Next Career Chapter Could Be in Korea

If the rumours prove true, this could be a big turning point.

Studio Dragon is one of Korea’s top three production companies, backed by CJ ENM, with blockbuster-level budgets and global distribution power.

Collaborating with them doesn’t just mean a Korean comeback—it could open doors worldwide, from Netflix to international festivals.

Industry whispers hint that the role on offer might push her image in a new direction.

Instead of the familiar "pure and bright" typecasting she’s known for in Japan, she may be stepping into bolder territory with a dramatic spy character who operates between Japan and Korea.

For now, nothing has been officially confirmed, but the buzz is strong enough to stir speculation about a full-blown international reinvention. What’s clear is that Nagano Mei isn’t walking away from the spotlight just yet—if anything, she may be about to relaunch herself on an even bigger stage.
