JKT48 Postpones 13th Theatre Anniversary Amid Jakarta Unrest

JKT48 Theatre Activities Suspended Until Further Notice
JKT48’s Theatre Turns 13… But Celebration Put on Hold

The big party for JKT48’s theatre just hit the brakes.

The group officially announced on September 1 that their 13th Theatre Anniversary, originally set for early September, will be postponed until further notice.

The decision comes after recent waves of mass demonstrations in Jakarta left the situation unpredictable.

Management stressed that the health and safety of members, staff, and fans must come first.

“Considering the current uncertainty, and putting the safety of members, fans, and staff as our top priority, we regretfully decided to suspend theatre activities for now,” the official statement read.

The delay doesn’t only hit the anniversary concert.

The much-anticipated shonichi (premiere) of JKT48’s brand-new original setlist Pertaruhan Cinta is also being pushed back.

Fans were also set to enjoy a packed schedule at the end of August, but four shows have already been cancelled:

  • Pajama Drive (29 August)

  • Ingin Bertemu (30 August)

  • Aturan Anti Cinta – Alya Seitansai (30 August)

  • Cara Meminum Ramune – Gracia Seitansai (31 August)

The trainee Pajama Drive show was particularly anticipated as it coincided with member Erine’s birthday.

Fans had prepared special projects, but these too will have to wait.

Alya and Gracia, who were ready to celebrate their seitansai (birthday stage celebrations) with fans.

Despite the obvious let-down, management reassured everyone that the group is looking forward to welcoming fans back once conditions stabilise.

For now, though, no new dates have been announced.

The postponement is a heavy blow to JKT48’s calendar – especially since their theatre has been a cornerstone of the group’s identity since 2012.

But in the bigger picture, safety remains the most important thing.
