Gigi Yim Breaks Free from TVB, Launches Her Own Studio and Stages Musical Comeback |
Hong Kong’s rising star Gigi Yim Ming-hay (Gigi Wang Lung-hay) is back in the spotlight — and this time she’s calling the shots. After over a year stuck in limbo due to contract disputes, the 20-year-old singer has officially parted ways with TVB and stepped out as a free agent.
At a press conference this week, Gigi Yim revealed she’s set up her own independent studio, proudly named Natural Quality, to kick-start a new chapter of her career.
She admitted the name was originally “Natural Queen,” but changed it to something that felt closer to her true self.
Despite the excitement, emotions ran high when Gigi reflected on her early years.
Fighting back tears, she thanked TVB for nurturing her career since her Stars Academy days and for the colleagues who stood by her journey.
“I’ll never forget those who helped me along the way,” she told reporters.

Her comeback isn’t just about contracts and studios — it’s about the stage.
Gigi Yim will play Future Girl, a character inside the mind of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Charles Kao, in the upcoming musical A Beam of Light — Memories of Charles Kao, which premieres this November.
Fans — affectionately known as “Gi” — showed up in numbers to support her, turning the launch into a mini homecoming party.
Gigi Yim admitted the role has been nerve-wracking but thrilling, with plenty of singing, dancing and acting required.
“It’s been over a year since I’ve performed, so honestly I’m more nervous than excited. But rehearsals are going well — I’ve already recorded three songs and I’m starting to get back into the rhythm,” she shared.

Addressing recent speculation, Gigi Yim confirmed she hasn’t signed with any big record labels or mainland companies, though she’s been approached by many.
For now, independence is the path she’s chosen. “I want to build things step by step,” she said.
She also spoke about her emotional livestream earlier this year, clarifying it came from a place of uncertainty during her “frozen” period.
Instead of sitting idle, she used the downtime to study at university, polish her vocals and dancing, and even head to Beijing to learn filming techniques.

“It was like putting myself into an oven — I came out changed,” she joked, adding that she even picked up archery and visited family in Shijiazhuang during that time.
For now, Gigi Yim’s focus is firmly on the musical and reconnecting with her fanbase.
She’s hinted at organising a fan meeting once rehearsals calm down.
As for future collaborations, she’s keeping her options open and hasn’t ruled out working with TVB again.
But one thing’s clear: Gigi Yim is no longer just a TVB prodigy — she’s an independent artist ready to carve her own path.
