| Old Drama Revisited: Zhao Lusi’s Livestream Remark Reignites Yu Shuxin Controversy |
Chinese entertainment has been buzzing yet again after Rosy Zhao Lusi unintentionally stirred the pot during her recent livestream. While practising for her driving theory test (科目一), the actress casually mentioned the phrase “reversing on the highway,” and added, “I know this one, because previously there was an artist…”
She didn’t continue, but fans quickly linked the comment to the January 2024 incident involving Esther Yu Shuxin’s team.
Back then, a car carrying Yu Shuxin was spotted reversing on the emergency lane of Beijing’s Fifth Ring Road, drawing a public warning from local traffic authorities. Although Yu Shuxin wasn’t driving, the episode made headlines across Chinese media.

In response, Yu Shuxin’s team issued an official statement clarifying that she was merely a passenger and not responsible for the driver’s actions.
They also criticised Zhao Lusi’s remark as a “play on words” that could fuel online bullying, suggesting it might have been an attempt to distract attention from Rosy’s own recent controversy over the alleged “fake farmer aid” incident, which had gone viral earlier this month.
Unsurprisingly, the comment sparked a heated online debate. Yu Shuxin’s fans accused Zhao Lusi of being unprofessional and insensitive, while Lusi’s supporters argued that the team should still take moral responsibility for the traffic mishap.

Hashtags connected to the drama quickly trended on Weibo, adding another chapter to China’s ongoing “fandom wars.”
This latest drama comes amid Zhao Lusi’s ongoing feud with her agency, Galaxy Cool Entertainment (银河酷娱).
Earlier this month, Zhao Lusi publicly accused the agency of mismanaging her schedule while she was ill and of reallocating funds from her studio without consent.
These disputes have left her career position somewhat shaky and may explain why the Yu Shuxin remark drew so much attention—it seems to reflect the pressure Zhao Lusi is currently under.
Meanwhile, Esther Yu Shuxin continues her steady career trajectory, with several major dramas slated for release. Yet, this controversy proves that in showbiz, even old events can come back to haunt you, sometimes when you least expect it.
