| Liu Yuning’s Concert Tradition for Late Fan Melts Hearts Online |
Chinese singer-actor Liu Yuning isn’t just known for his powerful vocals and heartfelt ballads — it’s his quiet gestures offstage that have fans crying all over again.
If you’ve ever been to one of his live shows, you might’ve spotted something unusual — seat 22, row 9 always left untouched, a single bouquet of white roses and lilies placed delicately on it, and a lightstick glowing softly beside it.
That’s not an accident. It’s a deeply personal tribute to a fan who passed away in 2019 — a young girl whose fan number was 229, who never got the chance to see her favourite idol live.
Back in 2019, this fan sadly died at the age of 17 due to illness.
In her final letter, she expressed regret that she wouldn't be able to keep supporting Liu Yuning and his group, Modern Brothers, in person. Moved by her words, Liu Yuning made a promise — and he's been keeping it ever since.
From his very first concert after her passing, Liu has reserved seat 22 in row 9 at every show, symbolically leaving it empty for her.
The spot is dressed with a bouquet — white roses for pure love, lilies for remembrance, and a shining lightstick so, as his team puts it, “she can always find her way home, even in the dark.”

It’s not a one-off gesture either.
His team orders the bouquet 10 days in advance of every show, and each year — the anniversary of her passing — Liu quietly sends another bunch of flowers and tribute messages in her memory.
The story recently went viral on Chinese social media, with fans and netizens sharing how deeply they were touched.
Even the florist who’s been arranging the bouquets all this time only found out the full story after seeing it online — and admitted being moved to tears.
“I thought it was just a regular fan gift,” the florist shared, “but knowing the meaning behind it now… it hits different.”
For many fans, this ongoing tribute is more than just respectful — it’s a reflection of Liu Yuning’s heart. In an industry often obsessed with numbers and trends, he’s quietly reminding everyone that every fan counts, and some bonds last even beyond a lifetime.
As one comment put it:
“He didn’t just remember her. He made sure the whole world did.”
And honestly? We couldn’t agree more.
