Hong Kong actor and streetwear icon Edison Chen Kwoon Hei is facing a legal headache as sportswear giant Nike has filed a lawsuit in California, claiming he owes $126,615.68 for goods and services provided to him and his company, Juice Los Angeles.

According to court documents reported by the Juksy, both Edison Chen and Juice Los Angeles are named as defendants. Nike alleges the company breached its account agreement by failing to pay for products supplied.

More seriously, the complaint notes that Edison Chen personally guaranteed Juice’s debts back in September 2019, making him “unconditionally” and “irrevocably” responsible for the outstanding balance.

Nike isn’t holding back—they’re seeking the full repayment plus interest at a rate of 1.5% per month, starting 30 days after the first invoice, until the balance is cleared.

On top of that, they’re asking for collection costs, legal fees, and other related expenses. Edison Chen has 21 days from being served to respond.

This lawsuit lands two years after Edison Chen ended his long-running 17-year partnership with Nike. Since 2006, Chen worked closely with the brand and its Jordan subsidiary, dropping numerous limited-edition sneakers that quickly became collector’s items.

Their split in 2023 coincided with Edison Chen signing with Adidas and focusing on growing his streetwear label, CLOT.

Industry insiders say the lawsuit is part of Nike’s wider push to protect its brand amid fierce competition in the sneaker market.

It comes shortly after Nike settled with custom sneaker designer the Shoe Surgeon, reducing an initial $60 million claim.

Nike vs Edison Chen case

Edison Chen, now 45, first became a household name in 1999 thanks to a commercial alongside Hong Kong superstar Leon Lai. He launched his music career in 2000 and earned acting acclaim with roles in films like Infernal Affairs and Initial D. After a 2008 hiatus following a highly publicised photo scandal, he made a return to the entertainment and fashion scenes in 2010.

With this lawsuit now in motion, all eyes will be on how Edison Chen and his team respond—and whether a settlement could be on the cards, or if this long-running sneaker saga heads to a full-blown court showdown.
