Chinese actress Savoki Zhao Jiamin, former SNH48 member turned rising drama star, has been replaced in her upcoming drama, leaving fans puzzled and curious. Known for her supporting role in The Double, Zhao Jiamin was reportedly set to be the second female lead in the drama tentatively linked to Genius Girlfriend.
The drama’s producer, Yu Zheng, took to social media to address the situation, sharing a candid photo with Savoki and giving fans a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse.
YuZheng wrote, “Maybe we don’t have a strong background, but we have the spirit to move forward. You’re not the only victim, so don’t lose heart.”
He also apologised personally, adding, “I’m sorry your boss isn’t strong enough yet. But I will keep working harder.”

According to Yu Zheng, the director had initially told Zhao Jiamin, “You are not the person I had in mind. I wanted someone else.”
Savoki was reportedly asked to dye her hair black, then yellow, and to perform in a more exaggerated style.
Despite her efforts, clips were allegedly used to justify claims that her acting didn’t fit the role. Even a late-night screen test at 2 a.m. couldn’t change the decision.

Yu Zheng also hinted at production shortcuts that may have contributed to the swap: scripts were only half-written, filming began immediately after finding a popular actress for the lead, and the male lead wasn’t even confirmed.
Many fans quickly speculated that the drama in question was Genius Girlfriend, starring Tian Xiwei and Hu Yitian.

Agency Fires Back
He Shiyu’s agency, Zhaosen Entertainment, issued an official statement on August 15, confirming that all casting decisions were made through transparent and fair selection processes. They emphasised that all work records and communication proofs exist, and vowed to take legal action against those spreading rumours.
The casting switch has split netizens: some sympathise with Zhao Jiamin, praising Yu Zheng for shedding light on the struggles actors face behind the scenes, while others accused the producer of courting controversy for publicity. Either way, the incident highlights the tough reality for young actors in the industry—especially those without established clout.
For Zhao Jiamin, this is not the first bump in her rising career, but with Yu Zheng publicly backing her spirit, fans are hopeful she’ll land even bigger roles soon.
