The search for Malaysia’s next international queen has officially hit top gear — the Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation (MUMO) just dropped the much-anticipated Top 16 lineup for 2025, and trust us, it’s anything but ordinary.
Announced on 31st July during a buzzing press conference at Holiday Inn Bangsar, the reveal came with a fresh breeze of change. Alongside the finalists, MUMO also welcomed a brand new face at the helm — Charissa Chong, a former Miss Grand Malaysia 2022 and Miss Universe Malaysia 2020 runner-up, now taking the reins as National Director. Her presence marks a new era for the pageant — bold, inclusive, and refreshingly modern.

Applications opened on 4th May and poured in from across the country, boosted by the inclusive guidelines rolled out last year. Unlike the traditional image of a beauty queen, MUMO now celebrates Malaysian women of all life stages — married, divorced, mothers, and of any age. And the result? A Top 16 that reflects the true, diverse spirit of Malaysia in 2025.
This year's selection saw hundreds of applicants narrowed down through private and virtual auditions held in June. The panel? Nothing short of elite. On board were Datin Seri Livonia Ricky Guing, MUMO Chairperson; Charissa Chong, National Director; James Tan of Evenstar Management; and Rubini Sambanthan, former Miss International Malaysia and seasoned actress-model.
Their criteria went well beyond looks — think intellect, cultural sensitivity, public speaking, and the kind of self-assurance that can light up any global stage.

There’s also a former Mrs Malaysia World championing women’s financial independence, plus a TEDx speaker who set up a non-profit to support refugee children’s mental health and education. The Top 16 also includes a model-dive trip coordinator, and a business strategist who’s smashing it in investment, fashion, and even competitive shooting sports.
