| Yang Mi Bounces Back with “The Litchi Road” – Box Office Smashes Past 100 Million Yuan! |
After a few underwhelming projects, Yang Mi’s finally got her groove back. Her latest film The Litchi Road is quietly turning into one of the sleeper hits of the season, pulling in over RMB 100 million at the Chinese box office just days after its premiere on 18 July 2025.
Douban users seem impressed too, with the movie holding a solid 7.7 rating, making it one of Yang Mi’s best-reviewed film projects in recent years.
A Tang Dynasty Tale That Hits the Sweet Spot

Adapted from the historical novel by popular writer Ma Boyong, The Litchi Road is a quirky period tale set in the Tang Dynasty.
Yang Mi plays Zheng Yuting, the clever and steady wife of Li Shande (played by comedian-turned-actor Dapeng), a minor official who finds himself stuck with an unusual task — becoming a lychee delivery envoy for Imperial Concubine Yang’s birthday.
What starts as a routine mission spirals into a series of political entanglements and unexpected twists — all while lugging around crates of lychees across ancient China. And it’s Yang Mi’s grounded, quietly witty portrayal of Zheng Yuting that seems to have struck a chord with audiences.

Industry Praise for Yang Mi’s Growth
Even controversial producer Yu Zheng couldn’t help but drop a compliment, saying:
“Yang Mi is really amazing. She’s grown up so much — there’s no trace of her past roles in this. She acted so well.”
Coming from someone known for his brutal takes, that’s no small thing.
A Needed Win After a String of Misses
The last few years haven’t exactly been smooth sailing for Yang Mi. Despite being one of China’s most recognisable names, recent releases like Nothing Can’t Be Undone by a Hotpot and In the Name of the Brother didn’t quite land with viewers or critics.
Once hailed as the undisputed queen of TV ratings, her transition to film has been a bit hit-and-miss — until now.
With The Litchi Road, she’s not just bringing in audiences again, she’s also showing off a more mature and nuanced performance that fans have been waiting to see.
The 2025 comeback is far from over — she’ll next be appearing in She’s Got No Name, another female-led project that’s been quietly building buzz. If The Litchi Road is anything to go by, Yang Mi’s finally back in fighting form. And this time, it looks like she's here to stay.

Although they don’t have many scenes, they are very crucial in the emotional relationship. The scene of the kapok flowers floating with the galloping horses at the climax was praised by some viewers as "the most… pic.twitter.com/C4igVCeyyw
