Zhao Wei Dragged into Fake Myanmar Scam Rumour, But She's Fighting Back |
The name Zhao Wei a.k.a Vicky/Vicki Zhao—once adored by millions for her iconic role as Xiao Yanzi in My Fair Princess—is making headlines again, but not for a long-awaited comeback. Instead, she’s suddenly being dragged into an unexpected and rather bizarre online rumour involving telecom scams in northern Myanmar.
After years of silence following her sudden blacklisting by the Chinese government in 2021, Zhao had kept a low profile, rarely seen or heard in public. But now, her name is back in the public eye—this time caught up in what her family calls a “malicious smear campaign”.
Fake Pics, Death Curses, and Dodgy Claims?
On 12 July, Zhao Wei’s older brother stepped forward with an official statement, firmly denying all the allegations tying the actress to any criminal activity in Myanmar. According to him, certain netizens had been intentionally spreading false claims—some even editing photos and attaching shocking death-related captions to rile people up online.
The situation was bad enough that the family filed a police report. What followed was even more surprising.
Turns out, one of the main rumour-starters is… a lawyer. Yep, someone who should’ve known better. After being identified by the authorities, he admitted that he fanned the flames online just to “gain attention” and “attract more clients” to his legal practice.
Zhao Wei’s Mum Devastated, Legal Case Moves Forward
The rumours didn’t just hurt Zhao’s public image—they deeply affected her loved ones. Her brother shared that their mother was heartbroken by the fake news, often crying at night and struggling to sleep from the stress.
“She’s not some capital agent or ‘female Buffett’ like people claim,” her brother said. “She’s just a simple woman, an actress and director who once brought joy to millions.”
Now, Zhao Wei is officially taking a stand. She’s filed a defamation lawsuit against those spreading false information online. The court has accepted the case and legal proceedings are set to begin soon.
Still No Return to the Spotlight—But Maybe Some Justice First
Zhao Wei may still be absent from screens and stages, but this latest move signals she’s not sitting back and letting false accusations go unchallenged. While there's no word yet on whether she plans to return to acting, this legal step marks her quiet but firm return to public life—with truth on her side.
