| Takao Sayaka Takes the Lead as STU48 Announce Reflective New Single |
Japanese idol group STU48 are switching up the vibes with their upcoming 12th single, officially titled “Kizutsuku Koto ga Seishun da” (傷つくことが青春だ), which translates to “Getting Hurt is Part of Youth.” And just from the name alone, you can already feel the punch of nostalgia and youthful fire they’re going for this time.
The single is slated for release on 27 August 2025, and the group dropped fresh visuals to go along with the announcement — featuring the girls bathed in natural light, styled in soft pastel fits, and surrounded by a warm, minimalist indoor setting. It’s a far cry from STU48’s usual coastal, Setouchi-style image, but it works. Think soft aesthetic meets reflective coming-of-age vibes.
And here’s the big one: Takao Sayaka, from Gen 2, is taking the centre position for the first time ever! After eight straight runs in senbatsu, the rising star is finally leading the pack — a well-earned spotlight moment that’s got fans buzzing. This marks her ninth consecutive senbatsu appearance, but it’s her first time as the face of a title track.

The track is being teased as a youth anthem — not just a sugary idol bop, but something with a bit more bite, touching on the bittersweet side of growing up. Perfect timing too, as the group prepares to kick off a national tour under the same title, starting this August alongside the single release.
Fans won’t have to wait too long to hear it either — the song will get its first on-air debut via RCC Radio’s “STU48 no Chirimen Party” on 18 July at 23:00 JST.
