Veteran Hong Kong actress Sherming Yiu (real name Yao Yali) recently opened up in a candid interview about her early days in the industry—and one particular disturbing experience that stuck with her for years.
Known for her roles in Forensic Heroes, Armed Reaction, and The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber, Sherming revealed that while filming for TVB years ago, she faced repeated uncomfortable contact from a senior male actor—someone highly respected in the biz.
“At first, I didn’t really think much of it,” she admitted. “He’d always come over on set, asking how I was, saying he cared. But each time, he’d squeeze my hand, and sometimes even touch my waist.”
At the time, she brushed it off. After all, he was much older and well-known, so she assumed it was just his way of being friendly. But the so-called ‘kindness’ happened too often to ignore, and something felt off.
One day, Sherming decided to throw a cheeky comment his way: “Are you checking my body?” she said, half-joking.
That stopped him in his tracks.
“He froze. And after that, he never did it again,” she recalled.
