Dee Girls Talk Controversy: Sandy Wu’s Mishap with Liu Yuning’s Pic Sparks Fan Outrage |
Sandy Wu (Su Shanru), who’s been standing in as temporary host for Dee Girls Talk while Dee Hsu is on a break, has found herself in a sticky situation after a light-hearted segment spiralled into a full-on backlash.
It all started when the Dee Girls Talk crew played a cheeky Q&A game using photo cut-outs of the co-hosts. To poke fun at Patrick Liu — who some reckon looks a bit like C-drama star Liu Yuning (A Dream Within a Dream) — the show’s team used a picture of Liu Yuning to represent him on the set.
All good fun… until it wasn’t.
During the segment, Sandy didn’t quite fancy one of “Patrick’s” answers, and in the heat of the moment, she took the photo down and started stepping on it in mock protest. What she didn’t clock was that she was literally stomping on Liu Yuning’s face — and the internet did not take it lightly.

Within hours, the clip had blown up online, especially among Liu Yuning’s loyal fanbase. Netizens branded the move “disrespectful” and “uncivilised”, with some even questioning whether Sandy’s fit to be hosting a talk show at all.
“No one’s photo deserves to be treated that way,” read one sharply-worded comment.
“She’s uneducated and still wants to be a host?” another asked.
💬 Apology Issued – and It’s Personal
While the show’s production team had already apologised, the heat wasn’t dying down. So Sandy Wu herself stepped forward with a statement aimed directly at Liu Yuning and his fans.
“I absolutely bear no ill will towards Liu Yuning,” she said. “I got carried away by the moment, and this was a mistake. I take full responsibility.”
She went on to explain that the segment’s “special visual design” contributed to the mishap, but stressed that the misstep was down to her own poor judgement and lack of sensitivity.
“My jokes and behaviour were inappropriate and failed to consider the feelings of the audience,” Sandy added. “I sincerely apologise for the discomfort and upset caused. It wasn’t my intention to offend anyone, least of all Liu Yuning. I will take this experience to heart and be more mindful in future.”
While Sandy’s apology was swift and direct, whether it’ll be enough to win back the public remains to be seen. Talk show blunders are nothing new, but when fandoms are involved — especially ones as passionate as Liu Yuning’s — one wrong move can trigger a firestorm.
Some netizens have called for the show to reflect on how it handles humour at the expense of real-life public figures, while others think the apology should be the end of it.
Either way, it’s a hard lesson learned for Sandy Wu, and a reminder that variety show antics — even the harmless ones — can sometimes go very wrong when you’re not watching your step… literally.
