Actor Couple Okada Masaki and Wife Takahata Mitsuki Reveal First Child on the Way |
Japanese acting power couple Okada Masaki (35) and Takahata Mitsuki (33) are gearing up for their biggest role yet – parenthood! The two stars shared the joyful news on July 16 via their agencies, revealing that they’re expecting their first child together. The baby is due to arrive around winter.
In a joint statement, the pair wrote:
“We’re pleased to share that we’ve been blessed with a new life. Takahata will continue her work while monitoring her health closely. We’re truly grateful to everyone who’s supported and understood us, and we’d be happy if you could warmly watch over us moving forward.”
This exciting announcement comes just eight months after they tied the knot in November 2024. Fans may remember the pair first teamed up as an onscreen married couple in the 2024 streaming drama 1122: Ii Fufu, and that reel-to-real chemistry clearly blossomed into something long-lasting offscreen too.
When they announced their marriage last year, they described their relationship as being like best friends, saying:
“We’ve spent our time together like close friends, and from now on we’ll continue our journey as husband and wife – supporting and inspiring each other so we can continue delivering our best work.”

Okada Masaki, born in Tokyo in 1989, made his acting debut in 2006 and quickly rose to fame with popular dramas like Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana Kimi) and Otomen. With a long list of hits under his belt – including Gintama, Yutori Desu ga Nani ka, and Dazai Osamu no Sakuhin – he’s built a reputation as one of Japan’s most versatile actors.
He’s also no stranger to accolades: in 2009, he picked up Best New Actor awards from both the Japan Academy Prize and the Blue Ribbon Awards for his film roles in Honokaa Boy and Gravity’s Clowns (Jūryoku Pierrot).
Takahata Mitsuki, originally from Osaka, first stepped into the spotlight in 2007 with a musical debut and a breakout stage role in Peter Pan. She caught wider public attention through NHK’s beloved morning dramas, especially Gochisousan (2013) and as the heroine in Toto Nee-chan (2016). Her film The Guide to the Perfect Love (Shokubutsu Zukan) earned her a Japan Academy Award for Best New Actress, and she later won Best Supporting Actress for A Banana? At This Time of Night?
From stage to screen, comedy to heavy drama, Takahata Mitsuki’s been a consistent presence in Japan’s entertainment scene, most recently starring in the Golden Kamuy live-action adaptation and dramas like unknown (2023).
Following the announcement, Japanese netizens and fans across Asia flooded social media with warm wishes. Comments like “Their drama couple energy is real!” and “So happy for them, they truly seem meant to be” were trending on platforms like Twitter/X and Instagram.
Many fans were touched by the low-key but heartfelt announcement, with some pointing out how rare it is for top-tier celebs to open up about their private life in such an honest, grounded way.
While no details have been revealed yet about whether either of them will be stepping back from work long-term, the couple noted that Takahata Mitsuki will be monitoring her schedule based on how she’s feeling. Given how active both have remained in their careers, we may still see them on screen for a while longer – but fans will no doubt be understanding if they choose to take a breather to prepare for their new chapter.
For now, congratulations to the happy couple on their growing family – we’ll be looking forward to that winter baby debut!
