The Chinese historical romance drama In the Name of Blossom (锦绣芳华) is making waves right now, not just for its gorgeous visuals and intense political plotting, but also for reuniting beloved co-stars Li Xian and Yang Zi—sending longtime fans straight into nostalgia mode.
Li Xian, who plays Jiang Changyang, recently sat down to chat about what it’s been like stepping back into costume drama land—especially alongside Yang Zi again. And spoiler: it's been a blast.
A Different Kind of Hero: Jiang Changyang Isn’t Just Another Pretty Face
This time around, Li Xian’s character isn’t your usual noble warrior or overpowered genius. Jiang Changyang is a “hua niao shi” (flower and bird scholar)—on the surface, calm, chill, and almost nonchalant.
But according to Li Xian, that’s all just the façade. Beneath the relaxed vibe is a man who’s deeply committed to his country, ready to throw down when it matters most.
Compared to his more reserved strategist role in Flourished Peony, Li Xian revealed that Jiang’s ambitions will soon come to light in a big way.
“He’s no longer hiding in the shadows,” he teased. “In upcoming episodes, he starts facing off with Prince Ning’s faction head-on. You’ll see the fire in him.”

Fans aren’t the only ones buzzing about this reunion. Li Xian shared that working with Yang Zi again felt like slipping back into a comfy pair of shoes—except this pair comes with a lot of ridiculous jokes.
“She’s honestly hilarious,” he said. “We were always joking around between takes—sometimes the director couldn’t even keep up with our nonsense.”
Apparently, their banter got so intense, even the crew had to pause filming just to decode the jokes. Now that’s co-star chemistry.
Cameras Rolling, Shutter Clicking
When he wasn’t in front of the camera, Li Xian was often behind one. Turns out he’s picked up photography as a hobby—and the set of In the Name of Blossom became his playground. From candid crew shots to moody behind-the-scenes portraits, he’s been documenting it all.
“The vibe on set was really cheerful,” he shared. “There were so many funny moments, I couldn’t help but snap photos whenever I had a chance.”
