“Now a Duo!” – Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Makes Sweet Comeback With Her Baby |
After a 15-month break, Japan’s ultimate kawaii queen Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is back—and this time, she’s not alone.
The Harajuku pop icon has just announced her brand-new single “KURU KURU HARAJUKU”, set to release on 18 July, and surprise: the main visual stars her and her adorable baby.
Yep, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s stepped into the next era of her career and motherhood with a cheeky grin, saying, “Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has become a duo now (lol).”
A Whirlwind Return to Harajuku Pop
Her first release in over a year, KURU KURU HARAJUKU blends exotic sounds with dangerously catchy beats—basically, it’s got “dancefloor magnet” written all over it.
Designed to get you spinning (literally “kuru kuru” means “turning” in Japanese), the song marks a bright, bouncy return for Kyary, whose unique brand of technicolour chaos has always kept fans on their toes.
But it’s not just the music that’s making headlines.
This comeback is deeply personal—her first creative project since giving birth to her first child.
And instead of keeping her baby life private, she’s embracing it full-on in her art.

Baby’s First Feature: A Heartfelt Visual Debut
In the new artwork, Kyary appears alongside her baby for the first time ever.
The visual concept is playful, surreal and heartwarming all at once—exactly what you’d expect from the Harajuku diva.
The baby, born in the Year of the Dragon, wears a dragon-themed headpiece, while Kyary herself is decked out in wild, bouldering-inspired fashion.
The styling suggests a kind of joyful co-climbing through life—Kyary even joked, “You can climb all over me. Let’s grow up together.”
There’s a warmth and vulnerability here that feels fresh for Kyary, but she’s doing it all with her signature whimsy.
The message? Parenting and pop stardom don’t have to be separate. She’s choosing both.

Iconic Creative Team Reunited
To bring this project to life, Kyary reunited with her long-time creative dream team—art director Steve Nakamura, stylist Kumiko Iijima, hair & makeup by Shinshi Konishi, and photography by Ken Hanzawa—all of whom have been behind some of her most iconic looks since her debut.
The team’s return signals not just nostalgia but evolution, showing how Kyary’s signature world is expanding to include her real life—and now, her child.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Speaks: “From Solo Artist to Mum-and-Baby Duo”
“Through all my past releases, I’ve always poured in whatever was happening in my life at the time,” Kyary shared. “This time, after becoming a mum, I thought, why not appear together with my baby in the visual? It felt natural.”
“We’re kind of like one body right now. I wanted to express that bond in a cute, fun way.”
Fans can expect the first live performance of KURU KURU HARAJUKU at ASOBIEXPO on 20 July, where the track will make its on-stage debut.
In the meantime, pre-add/save is now open across streaming platforms. Looks like the Kyary universe just got a new co-star—tiny, but mighty.
