Drama “Rebirth” Pushes Forward Without Huang Yang Tian Tian as Her Father Faces Legal Trouble |
Something’s definitely off in the world of Chinese drama Rebirth—and fans have clocked it. The show’s latest official promo dropped recently, but there’s one glaring omission: the name of its leading lady, Huang Yang Tian Tian, is nowhere to be seen.
It didn’t take long for netizens to connect the dots. Rumours are now swirling that HuangYang Tian Tian might be quietly replaced, with whispers of a potential digital face swap or even reshoots with a brand-new actress.
Nothing’s been confirmed, but the drama’s sudden shift in promotion—without any mention of its original female lead—has certainly raised eyebrows.
Huangyang TianTian’s agency has stayed completely silent so far, offering no comment despite multiple attempts by Chinese media to reach out. But an insider has reportedly revealed that the production team is actively discussing replacing the character’s on-screen face. Whether they’ll go full CGI or recast the role entirely, it looks like something major is brewing behind the scenes.
So what’s going on?
Well, unfortunately for HuangYang Tian Tian, the buzz might not actually be about her—but rather her father, Yang Wei, who’s currently facing serious scrutiny over past misconduct during his time as a public official in Ya’an, Sichuan.
This all started with a minor social media scandal involving some suspiciously expensive earrings—yes, really—which eventually led to a deeper investigation. Things escalated fast.
On 9 July, Yang Wei admitted in an interview that he’d already received a disciplinary decision from the Ya’an Supervision Authority. He expressed “regret” and said he was reflecting on his actions.
Turns out, YangWei was found guilty of illegally running businesses while still in office, which is a big no-no under Chinese public service law. On top of that, he reportedly concealed the birth of a second child during a time when family planning rules were still strictly enforced.
The consequences? The government confiscated around 30,000 yuan in what they described as “illegal earnings.”

但仔细一看报道内容,就知道又是一场避重就轻,掩人耳目式的调查,所谓的调查只不过是堵民众的嘴罢了! pic.twitter.com/hJa7LU1enx
Though Yang Wei no longer holds public office, legal experts like Sichuan’s Hu Yexun have noted that penalties can still apply post-retirement—especially when it comes to assets or earnings obtained through misconduct
While Huang Yang Tian Tian herself hasn’t been accused of any wrongdoing, it seems the controversy surrounding her dad might be impacting her career by association. Whether this means a permanent exit from Rebirth or just a temporary PR shuffle, only time will tell.
Until then, the drama continues—both on-screen and off.
